Job summary

MANTECH’s Space Division in Kent, WA seeks a Launch Vehicle Project Engineer to support the USSF Space (SSC) and the National Security Space Launch program at the Kent site. You will provide LV systems engineering across propulsion, avionics, structures, and software, leading design reviews, risk assessments, and technical recommendations.

Responsibilities include coordinating customer reviews, site walkdowns, and anomaly resolution, plus producing surveillance reports on LV components.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering or STEM field.
  • 12+ years as systems engineer or related roles.
  • 4+ years DoD or Launch/Range experience.
  • Knowledge of LV systems and related subsystems.
  • Ability to obtain Secret Clearance (may be required).

Job description

MANTECH’s Space Division is recruiting a highly talented, customer-oriented Launch Vehicle Project Engineer to support the United States Space Force Space (USSF), Systems Command (SSC) in executing the National Security Space Launch (NSSL) program in the Kent, WA area.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
  • Provide LV systems engineering expertise at Kent, WA launch provider site. Areas of expertise may include Propulsion, Avionics, Structures, Mechanical Systems, Guidance Navigation and Control, Mission Analysis, Software, and Manufacturing Engineering, Mission Assurance, or Launch Operations. Plan, coordinate, participate, facilitate Engineering Boards, provide risk assessments and technical recommendations.
  • Perform systems engineering functions such as requirements definition, design review, test review, pedigree, hardware acceptance, performance assessment and verification, operations, and post-flight analyses.
  • Prepare Customer team for, and directly support, launch contractor reviews, audits, and site walkdowns, rehearsals and launch operations, and anomaly resolution processes. Perform technical and engineering data management, such as data mining and reporting, while successfully keeping proprietary information separate and protected.
  • Provide an overall analysis/evaluation of the current launch vehicle Article/Tail # by consolidating critical information and metrics from reports for each Flight Critical Item List (FCIL) discipline.
  • Produce Quality Program Surveillance, Component Surveillance, and Consolidated Surveillance Reports (tail number reports) on Avionics, Composites, Hydraulics, Propulsion and Structures, periodically, monthly, and as required.
  • Verify/validate that manufacturing/producibility approaches/processes are developed/correlated with the critical design (in accordance with SMC-S-021 CDR Appendix E, SAE AS6500, and LE-T-014). Identify problematic suppliers and delivery issues, incorporating them into a tracking process (including those not on the FCIL but may impact the Launch Schedule).
  • Provide quality oversight of AS9100, LE-T-014 and ISO-9000 environments, including technical review of written material and assessments of conformance to policies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering or bachelor’s degree in STEM field. 1.5 years relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of each 1 year of education/degree requirement.
  • 12 + years as systems engineer, technical PM, or other related areas
  • 4 + years of DoD or Launch/Range experience.
  • Knowledge/experience with LV systems (liquid propellant rocket engines and systems, ordnance, hydraulics, in-flight avionics, LV ground support equipment, LV structures, composite materials, etc.)
  • Experience with LV design, processing, integration, testing, launch and anomaly resolution.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with space, launch, and safety standards.
  • Experience with USSF, NASA, National Reconnaissance Office, and LCs preferred.
  • Experience with agile software products, such as Warp Core, Jira, Confluence, MS Office Suite, SharePoint, Google Workspace, and Information Technology systems is highly preferred.
  • Previous project management experience preferred.
Clearance Requirements
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance. However, not required to start.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%.
  • Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
  • Frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
