Sheridan Community Hospital seeks a Referral Specialist for Lakeview Health Partners, our new Rural Health Clinic in Lakeview, MI. You will coordinate referrals, obtain authorizations, and ensure timely access to specialty care, working closely with providers and patients.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, 1–3 years in a medical setting, and EMR experience. This role emphasizes accuracy, communication, and HIPAA compliance within a growing clinic.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Completion of an accredited Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant training program preferred.
• One to three years of experience in a medical clinic setting.
• Experience working with electronic medical records required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare referral processes.
• Experience with ICD-10 coding preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet daily deadlines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Professional telephone etiquette and exceptional customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining collaboration with providers and team members.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate documentation and patient confidentiality.

Responsabilités

• Coordinate and process patient referrals to specialists, diagnostic services, and outside facilities.
• Ensure all referral forms, medical records, and supporting documentation are accurate and complete.
• Obtain insurance authorizations for referrals, procedures, and diagnostic testing as required.
• Schedule appointments with outside providers and communicate information to patients.
• Process referrals within 3 to 5 business days after receiving required documentation.
• Maintain referral tracking logs and monitor outstanding referrals to completion.
• Enter and update referral information in the electronic medical record.
• Communicate effectively with patients, providers, insurers, and facilities.
• Respond promptly to patient inquiries regarding referral status.
• Maintain an updated list of approved specialists and facilities.
• Identify and resolve referral-related issues in collaboration with staff.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support clinic efficiency.
• Assist with additional clinical support duties as appropriate.
