Job summary

AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space, enabling direct use on standard devices. We seek a Mechanisms Launch Base Engineer to oversee final integration, inspection, and launch-site readiness of spacecraft mechanical systems and interfaces.

The role requires hands-on testing in a fast-paced launch environment, strong documentation discipline, and collaboration with engineering, integration, and operations teams to ensure flight readiness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline with strong coursework in mechanisms and launch interfaces.
  • Experience inspecting hardware, wiring/interfaces, and adhering to controlled documentation.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, ICDs, and procedures; knowledge of CM and QA processes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform final flight inspections of spacecraft mechanisms and separation systems, documenting torque, fasteners, and cleanliness.
  • Lead mechanical integration activities, including installation of separation hardware and release systems.
  • Conduct electrical mating and verification testing; ensure interface integrity and traceability.
  • Maintain S2M processes, inspect connectors, and support certification of launch readiness.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, and mission partners to meet flight requirements.
