Qualifications

Job Summary

The Senior Launch Manufacturing Engineer / Launch Engineering Manager is responsible for leading automotive new product launches from pre‑quote through full production. This role owns launch readiness, plant and equipment setup, process development, and Lean implementation while working cross‑functionally with Engineering, Quality, Production, and Supply Chain. This individual will serve as a technical and operational leader to ensure safe, repeatable, and cost‑effective production launches that meet customer and program requirements.

Key Responsibilities

New Product Launch & Implementation

• Lead automotive new product launches from quoting, pilot builds, and station readiness through SOP and rate production
• Manage launch readiness activities including building preparation (air, electrical, construction), equipment installation, and tooling runoff
• Coordinate and execute pilot builds, feasibility reviews, and launch timelines with internal teams and customers
• Serve as engineering liaison between plant operations, customers, and suppliers during launch execution

Manufacturing & Process Engineering

• Develop plant layouts, line balance, process steps, and error‑proofing solutions for assembly operations
• Generate and maintain Process Flows, PFMEAs, Control Plans, and standardized work documentation
• Create equipment specifications, preventive maintenance schedules, and spare parts systems
• Conduct time studies, MODAPTS analysis, and station readiness audits across all shifts
• Implement and maintain Standard Operating Sheets (SOS) and Job Element Sheets (JES)

Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement

• Lead Lean Manufacturing initiatives including Kaizen, 5S, OEE, and Waste Reduction activities
• Drive standardized work, operator utilization improvements, and ergonomic compliance
• Utilize Business Plan Deployment and structured problem‑solving methodologies (PDCA, Team Problem Solving)
• Support World Class Manufacturing (WCM) practices and continuous improvement culture

Leadership & Cross‑Functional Collaboration

• Lead and support cross‑functional teams across Engineering, Quality, Production, Safety, and Supply Chain
• Manage and mentor supervisors and production teams during launch and steady‑state operations
• Support capacity analysis, production planning, and labor estimating for new and existing programs
• Participate in management reviews, technical presentations, and customer launch meetings

Required Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in automotive manufacturing, launch engineering, or production leadership
• Extensive experience leading OEM or Tier 1 automotive launches
• Strong background in manufacturing process development, plant layout, and equipment implementation
• Proven experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flows, and standardized work
• Deep knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles (5S, Kaizen, OEE, WCM, Six Sigma)
• Strong cross‑functional leadership and communication skills

Preferred Experience

• Experience supporting Ford, GM, Stellantis / FCA, or major Tier 1 suppliers
• Prior roles such as Launch Manufacturing Engineer, Lead Launch Engineer, Area Manager, or Lean Manufacturing Director
• Experience managing large production teams and multiple shifts
• Background in building readiness, tooling coordination, and supplier management

Compensation

Compensation: $50/hour

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
