Position Summary
The Grinder operates a machine to grind metal parts to appropriate standards.

Shift: 2 (United States of America)

Essential/Key Functions

  • Grinds metal objects, such as castings, billets, machine parts, and sheet metal subassemblies to smooth or rough-finish objects to specifications.
  • Removes excess metal, scratches, or burs by feeding metal pieces against rotating grinding wheel.
  • Examines and measures work piece for conformance to standards.
  • Selects and mounts abrasive wheels of different grit size to grinder to obtain specified finish on work piece.
  • Verifies correct product using job traveler.
  • Inspects a wide variety of commercial and manufactured parts for compliance with engineering specifications and Company standards.
  • Uses inspection methodology and records all results.
  • Interprets complex drawings, process sheets and Company standards.
  • Works with quality and management on any manufacturing issues/defects.
  • Monitors machine performance and performs preventative maintenance to assure continuity of production.
  • Monitors and ensures all fluid levels are maintained on all equipment.
  • Uses precision measuring tools specific to job.
  • Reads part drawing with sectional views.
  • Utilizes overhead crane to lift, position and transport part.
  • Maintains plant standards in areas of safety, quality, delivery, cost, 5S, housekeeping, teamwork and attendance.
  • Recommends improvements for area product and processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Demonstrates personal leadership; actively participates in or leads problem solving and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Demonstrates flexibility when confronted with high stress or emergency situations, priority changes, or new assignments.
  • Interacts professionally when interacting with customers and employees.
  • Understands and follows basic verbal and written instructions.
  • Possesses basic mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Prior experience grinding equipment, machines and products required.
  • Utilizes power tools and various equipment as needed to perform duties.

Minimum (Required) Qualifications

  • Attention to detail.
  • Arithmetic inclined.
  • Able to stand during entire shift.
  • Technical Program Certificate, or 1+ years of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of both education and experience.
