Job summary

Thurston County is seeking a Corrections Deputy to staff the jail, handling inmate searches, bookings, fingerprinting, and transportation to court and medical appointments. You will maintain security and order, operate surveillance systems, and document court dispositions.

Candidates must meet WA CJTC corrections certifications or equivalents, pass a background, medical and polygraph exam, and have a valid WA driver's license. Veteran status and other requirements may apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must hold or obtain WA Corrections Officer Academy certification or equivalency.
• Must be 21+ years old and able to obtain WA Driver's License.
• Must pass pre-employment and background checks per Thurston County standards.
• No felony convictions or serious offenses; U.S. citizen, lawful status, or DACA as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Receives, searches, books, fingerprints, and photographs incoming prisoners; processes jail records.
• Maintains jail security by pat searches and surveillance; ensures inmate welfare.
• Transfers prisoners to/ from court; delivers to medical facilities as required.
• Logs dispositions, writes memos, and maintains unit rosters; responds to disturbances.
• Administers medications and monitors safety; supervises assignments of trustees.
