Job summary

Thurston County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Corrections Deputy to support jail operations in Washington. Responsibilities include booking, photographing, and fingerprinting inmates; maintaining security; delivering prisoners to court and medical appointments; logging dispositions, monitoring surveillance, and handling inmate needs.

The role requires a Washington corrections certification or equivalent, and adherence to civil service standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• U.S. Citizen, lawful status, or eligible under DACA.
• No felony convictions or offenses indicating a pattern of criminal behavior.
• Minimum age 21 years at appointment.
• Valid Washington State Driver's License.
• Ability to read, write and speak English as required.

Responsibilities

• Receive, search, book, fingerprint, and photograph incoming prisoners.
• Maintain jail security through observation and searches; ensure orderly conduct.
• Provide inmates with basic hygiene and welfare needs.
• Prepare and transport prisoners to court, medical facilities, and other locations.
• Record court dispositions and maintain files.
• Monitor visitors, manage inmate property, and distribute meals.
• Oversee medical administration and supervise safety.
• Operate surveillance equipment and related devices.
• Answer departmental calls and communicate effectively by phone.
