An established industry player is seeking experienced law enforcement officers for a Patrol Officer position. This role involves protecting life and property, enforcing laws, and providing community service. Officers will work 24-hour shifts and must be prepared for various duties, including patrolling, responding to emergencies, and engaging with the public. Candidates must possess a valid law enforcement certification and have at least one year of full-time commissioned experience. This position offers a $10,000* incentive pay for lateral applicants. It is designated for experienced law enforcement officers only (see minimum qualifications below). Candidates without full-time sworn police officer experience, expired certifications, or with more than a 60-month break in commissioned service should apply as entry-level candidates.

Patrol Officer - $7,896 - $9,704 per month
Police officer candidates meeting the criteria of "Lateral Officer" as defined in Section 7.1.1 of the City of Longview Civil Service Commission General Rules upon being hired shall be eligible for an incentive payment of $10,000. This incentive applies to external candidates only; current or past officers employed by the City are not eligible. Details of this incentive will be discussed during the recruitment process.
This role involves first-line duties in protecting life and property, law enforcement, law and ordinance enforcement, peace preservation, criminal apprehension, and community service. Officers work 24-hour shifts, which may be 8, 9, or 10 hours, assigned based on departmental needs.
Responsibilities include patrolling assigned areas via vehicle, bicycle, or on foot; responding to various calls such as emergencies, crimes, and accidents; investigating crimes; preparing reports; engaging in public relations; performing safety checks; and providing emergency aid.
Selection is based on civil service rules, including physical agility and oral interviews. Candidates must be at least 21 years old, U.S. citizens, possess an AA degree or meet education waiver criteria, hold a valid driver’s license, and current law enforcement certification. Additional requirements include a Basic First Aid Card and Breathalyzer operation certification, with the ability to obtain within 90 days if not already certified.
Applicants must have at least one year of full-time commissioned police experience, with documentation required at application. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Exposure to various weather conditions, physical and psychological stress, and potential danger. Must be available for evening, holiday, and emergency shifts.
Operation of patrol vehicles, firearms, restraints, communication devices, and other law enforcement tools.
