Job summary

KBR is hiring a Fabric Laser/Wheel Cutting Technician in Houston to support our Space Suit segment. You will work with design and engineering teams, applying CAD skills to patterns and operating laser and wheel cutting systems. Candidates should have CAD proficiency, 2+ years of related experience or 5 years in lieu of a degree, and a commitment to safety in a laboratory setting.

The role requires U.S. citizenship and an associate degree in CAD design or related field.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to sensitive information.
  • Associate degree in CAD Design or related field is required.
  • 2 years of related work experience; or 5 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD software for 2D modeling and design.
  • Ability to operate and maintain production equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and attention to detail; strong teamwork and communication.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with designers and engineers to understand project requirements and objectives.

KBR is seeking a FABRIC LASER/WHEEL CUTTING TECHNICIAN to support our SPACE SUIT for KBR’s Science and Space division. The TECHNICIAN will work on a collaborative team supporting our cutting operations, collaborating with our production and engineering teams, and ensuring the efficient functioning of our laser and wheel cutting equipment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of laser cutting technologies, proficiency in CAD software, and a keen eye for detail.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate closely with designers and engineers to understand project requirements and objectives.
  • Utilize CAD software to create and modify patterns, ensuring accuracy and feasibility for laser and wheel cutting.
  • Operate and maintain cutting tables, including setup, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct quality control checks on cut objects to verify adherence to specifications and standards.
  • Manage inventory of fabrics and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within the cutting lab, including equipment upkeep and workspace tidiness.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members on cutting best practices and safety protocols.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with cutters, such as software errors and cut failures.
Required Education / Experience
  • This position requires U.S. Citizenship due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
  • Education: Must have an associate’s degree in the field of CAD DESIGN or a related field.
  • Years of Experience: Must have 2 years of recent and related work experience.
  • In lieu of degree: Candidates with 5 years of relevant work experience will be considered.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD software for 2D modeling and design.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain various types of production equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities, with a track record of working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to safety protocols and guidelines for working in a laboratory setting.
Preferred Education / Experience
  • Familiarity with Aeronaut fabric laser and wheel cutting machines is a plus.
  • Experience with Tangent nesting and cut control software.
  • Experience using PDM is preferred.
  • Aerospace experience preferred.
