Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Laser Tracker Metrology Technician to perform high-precision dimensional inspections, alignments, and measurement services using laser tracker systems and portable metrology equipment. The ideal candidate will support manufacturing, assembly, tooling, and quality operations across industries such as aerospace, automotive, heavy equipment, energy, and industrial manufacturing. This role requires strong technical aptitude, the ability to interpret engineering drawings and GD&T, and experience operating laser tracker systems such as API Radian, Leica, FARO, or similar portable coordinate measurement systems.

Responsibilities
  • Operate laser tracker systems and portable metrology equipment to perform dimensional inspections, tooling verification, precision alignments, machine and robot calibration, reverse engineering support, and assembly validation.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T requirements.
  • Generate inspection reports and documentation for customers and internal teams.
  • Support manufacturing and engineering teams with root cause analysis and process improvement initiatives.
  • Perform equipment verification, calibration checks, and preventative maintenance.
  • Travel to customer facilities to support on-site metrology projects as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with quality standards, safety procedures, and customer specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production personnel to resolve dimensional and alignment issues.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent experience in: Metrology, Quality Assurance, or Precision Measurement.
  • 2+ years of experience using laser trackers or portable metrology systems.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, blueprint reading, coordinate systems, and precision measurement principles.
  • Experience with dimensional inspection software.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with API Radian Laser Trackers or similar systems.
  • Experience in aerospace, automotive, shipbuilding, or heavy manufacturing industries.
  • Certification in metrology or quality systems is a plus.
  • Experience with 3D scanning and photogrammetry systems.
  • Experience with PolyWorks Inspector software.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and move metrology equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and work in industrial environments for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel and work flexible schedules when supporting customer projects.
