Summary:Operates CNC turret punch press to punch holes or layout marks in metal sheets, plates, strips, or bars, following charts which list machine settings for each cut by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities for a CNC Operator:

  • Inserts, aligns, and locks punches and dies in turret.
  • Places work piece on table.
  • Aligns work piece to scale and end gauge on machine and clamps it to machine table.
  • Pushes button to turn turret to specified punch and die.
  • Turns cranks to set indicator to specified dimension on forward and lateral machine scale.
  • Positions center punch from turret to touch plate and turns crank to scratch layout lines.
  • Computes punch charts from blueprints.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications of a CNC Machine Operator:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
  • Ability to read, comprehend and communicate simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. .
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
