Job summary

Confluent Medical Technologies seeks a Staff Laser Engineer to join their Fremont, CA team. The role focuses on laser cutting and welding process development, CAM programming, and equipment optimization in a medical device setting.

The candidate will plan engineering activities for production and new product development, improve CAM tools, and ensure safety and documentation practices. A BS with 5+ years (or MS with 3+ years) is required, with strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• BS in engineering with 5+ years of related experience or MS with 3+ years of related experience.
• CAM programming and development experience.
• SolidWorks/3D modeling and design experience.
• Proficiency in SPC methodologies.
• Laser cutting and/or laser welding experience is a plus.
• Experience in the medical device industry is a plus.
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate engineering activities for standard production and new product development.
• Develop laser cutting and welding processes, including programming, motion system tuning, optimization, parameter development, troubleshooting, and documentation.
• Improve CAM programming using SMARTCAM and Cagila; develop post processors and streamline HMI interfaces.
• Develop mechanical processes, evaluate materials and tooling, and select equipment.
• Provide guidelines and modifications for equipment and tooling to improve processes.
• Propose and validate additional I/O and automation for laser systems.
• Follow health, safety and environmental programs and ensure hazards are managed.
• Investigate new laser cutting and welding technologies and collaborate with external labs for proof of concept.

We are seeking a Staff Laser Engineer to join our dynamic team of industry leading experts in Fremont, CA.

As a uniquely qualified candidate, you will:

• Includes planning/coordinating engineering activities, studies and programs in support of standard production and new product development.
• Be responsible for laser cutting and welding process development, including programming, motion system tuning, optimization, parameter development, troubleshooting, and documentation
• CAM programming improvements using SMARTCAM and Cagila. Develop post processors and streamline HMI interfaces.
• Mechanical process development, product selection, evaluation, and capability testing, along with selection of other relevant equipment and tooling.
• Support and provide equipment guidelines and tooling modifications for process improvements.
• Propose, evaluate, and validate additional I/O and automation controls for existing and new laser systems
• Follow health, safety and environmental programs for preventative maintenance – adhering to safety protocols and ensuring that all hazards are properly managed.
• Investigate potential new laser cutting and welding technologies, collaborate with applications/outside labs for proof of concept

Requirements:

• BS degree in a relevant engineering discipline and five or more years of related engineering experience; or a MS degree with a minimum of three years of relevant experience.
• CAM programming and development
• Solid background in SolidWorks/3D modeling and design
• Proficient in Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies
• Laser cutting and/or laser welding experience a plus
• Experience in the medical device industry a plus
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
