In Kansas City, Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies (FM&T) manages and operates the U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration's (NNSA) Kansas City National Security Campus. Summary

This Electrical Engineer III position is responsible for performing and coordinating design, development, evaluation, analysis, and/or quality control functions on advanced and complex engineering projects. This role also involves independently determining and developing solutions to technical problems specifically assigned or as they arise while applying advanced mathematical, physical science, and engineering technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Designs and/or develops/processes new products, special instruments, and unique equipment to meet specific requirements of customer orders.
  • Develops/assesses production or inspection operations and sequences, acceptance equipment and processing methods required to manufacture or inspect complex components and assemblies.
  • Monitors and analyzes electrical testing of products and troubleshoots test failures.
  • Participates in developing operating procedures, work instructions, and inspection criteria on new products and components.
  • Plans and performs engineering testing and uses advanced statistical and scientific methods to address and resolve engineering and production problems and to assure product manufacturability.
  • Refines product definitions, based on knowledge of manufacturing capability, to assure that released designs can be produced.
  • Interacts with customers, design agency and/or supplier counterparts to resolve moderate design, development, production, and acceptance issues.
  • Prepares evaluation reports, analyzes discrepancies, makes recommendations for and initiates the most cost-effective improvements for product, test equipment, procedures, and manufacturing or operating processes that improve productivity and quality and reduce flowtime.
  • Provides project leadership and technical guidance on complex engineering projects.


You Must Have

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET accredited university in Engineering or Physics from and accredited program.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in engineering, analytical, or related technical activities.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time
  • Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business
  • United States Citizenship
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job
  • Ability to obtain and maintain, if required for position, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations)


We Value

  • Three or more years in a technical leadership role with significant responsibility on a major project
  • Demonstrated background in stockpile weapon component function, processes, and procedures
  • Experience using optical layout, simulation & modeling software such as Zemax and CODE V
  • Demonstrated effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Must be skilled at interaction with all levels of management and outside entities
