Job summary

Athena Manufacturing, LP is hiring a Laser Operator I in Austin, TX to manage the CNC laser cutting machine and support the production team. You will assemble parts, operate machinery, bend, punch or saw metal as instructed by supervisors, and set up lenses for optimal performance.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years on Trumpf/Amada CNC lasers, a solid sheet metal background, and a focus on safety and quality. On-site role with growth opportunities and adherence to ISO/OSHA standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required with 2+ years of related experience.
• 2+ years of experience on Trumpf, Amada or similar CNC laser cutting machines (TruDisk/TruFlow preferred).
• Solid background working with sheet metal and related processes.

Responsibilities

• Operate the CNC laser cutting machine and support production as instructed.
• Performs set-up, first piece inspections, and quality checks.
• Maintain safe, clean work area and adhere to ISO/OSHA standards.
• Coordinate with department manager to define work scopes and timelines.
• Document work and inspection data in travelers and M2M system.
• Assist with material handling, assembly, and packing for shipment.
• Monitor equipment and perform routine maintenance per QMS.

Overview:

Laser Operator I, manage the CNC laser cutting machine and support the production team by assembling parts, operating machinery, bending, punching or sawing of metal products as instructed by supervisors. Perform as general operator on a laser machine. Operate the CNC laser cutting machine and other machinery used in the production process, or assist other machine operators. Select and set up lenses based on material type and thickness, load programs and set machine parameters to ensure optimal performance of the equipment.

• Coordinates with department manager to ensure work scopes are accurately defined.
• Performs periodic maintenance to equipment in accordance with QMS procedures.
• Records set-up and run time data into M2M system.
• Handles material in accordance with QMS procedures.
• Identifies cost reduction and productivity improvement opportunities to supervisor.
• Knowledge about shield gases used during laser cutting operation.
• Monitor fill level of bulk tank system and report reordering levels to the supervisor.
• Work with automated storage system.
• Assemble items as instructed by shift leader or floor supervisor.
• Prepare product for shipment.
• Lift raw materials, final products, and items packed for shipment, manually, or using hoist.
• Operate machinery used in the production process, or assist machine operators.
• Uphold all ISO and OSHA standards applicable to the responsibilities above.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of related experience. One year of related experience may substitute for one year of education up to a maximum of 4 years.
• 2+ years of experience on Trumpf, Amada or similar CNC laser cutting machines (TruDisk/TruFlow preferred).
• High school diploma or GED is preferred.
• Solid background working with sheet metal.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Strength — (Heavy)- Exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
• Movement- climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, twisting, bending
• Auditory- talking and hearing
• Vision-near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, color vision, field of vision
• Environment conditions and physical surroundings-noise, vibration, atmospheric conditions

REQUIRED WORK CLOTHING AND PPE:
