Job summary

Scion Steel in Warren, MI is seeking a Laser Operator to run and maintain the laser cutting system in our steel fabrication facility. This role requires hands-on experience with laser equipment and a focus on safety and quality.

You will load and unload materials, read cut lists and blueprints, and ensure parts meet specifications. The position offers full-time hours, competitive pay, and benefits including health, dental, and 401(k).

Qualifications

• At least 2 years hands-on experience operating a Laser machine in a steel fabrication facility.
• Ability to accurately measure, read cut lists, blueprints, and sketches.
• Experience operating forklifts and overhead cranes.
• Ability to read a tape measure, micrometer and caliper.
• Ability to accurately track inventory.

Responsibilities

• Operating and maintaining the laser machine in the facility.
• Loading and unloading of material on the laser tables.
• Wear properly fitted personal protective equipment such as gloves, face shields, safety glasses, and steel toed shoes.
• Receive work order; obtain and organize materials, ensure that all materials being used are accurate and in compliance with specifications and quality control.
• Safely operate equipment such as cranes, Hilo’s, grinders, etc.
• Maintain, support, and follow all Scion steel standards as specified within the quality management system.
• Identify proper gauge and type of steel to be cut.
• Examine cuts to verify accuracy and making adjustments to the Laser as needed.
• Carry out work orders within a realistic timeline ensuring that deadlines are met.

Reports to: Plant Manager

The vital role of our Laser Operators in our steel manufacturing facility is a dedicated professional responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the efficient and safe operation of our machinery. Their expertise and commitment are essential to maintaining high standards of productivity and safety across our operations.

Responsibilities include:

• Operating and maintaining the laser machine in the facility

Schedule:

• 8-10 hour shift
• Morning Shift: 6:00am – 4:30pm Evening shift: 4:00pm – 2:30am
• Monday to Friday, sometimes Saturday.

Ability to commute/relocate:

• Warren, MI 48089: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40-56 per week
