Job summary

MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington, Massachusetts, invites applications for a Laser Communications Intern (Summer 2027) in Group 66. The position is a 10–12 week Summer Research Program, offering hands-on work in a prototype build and opportunities to contribute in software, embedded systems, and photonics.

Selected interns will own a technical project, receive dedicated mentorship, and present results at the end of the term.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate in a related field.
  • Experience in a fiber optic/photonics lab environment.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technical areas and apply knowledge to mission problems.
  • Proficiency with embedded systems, control, digital and analog circuit design and testing or proficiency with C/C++, Python.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a Lasercom prototype build program and own a technical project to present at internship end.
  • Work with the Group on software development, embedded systems design, or data analysis as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineers from multiple disciplines and communicate solutions clearly.
