Job summary

Master Machine is a precision manufacturing and fabrication company located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer III to support large-scale fabrication projects from customer PO through final shipment.

The role focuses on heavy fabrication and large weldments, collaborating with production, customers, suppliers, and engineering teams to plan, execute, and document manufacturing processes with GD&T and welding standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Welding, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent progressions.
• 5+ years of manufacturing/fabrication engineering experience supporting weldments of large scale.

Responsibilities

• Plan fabrication sequences, weld sequencing, fixturing, and distortion control for large weldments.
• Develop manufacturing instructions, routers, BOMs, weld maps, inspection reports, and test documentation.
• Determine material, fabrication, inspection, and testing requirements from drawings and specs.
• Plan and support heavy lifts, including rigging plans and load paths.
• Coordinate with production teams to determine machining and fabrication approaches.
• Create test plans and support pressure, load, electrical, and other testing.
• Develop CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and fixture designs as needed.
• Establish purchasing requirements and coordinate with outside vendors.
• Provide technical guidance to production personnel during welding and assembly.
• Communicate with customers, vendors, and customer engineering teams.

Large Fabrication Manufacturing Engineer III

Manufacturing Engineer III – Large Fabrication

We’re looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer III to support complex, large-scale fabrication projects from customer purchase order through final shipment.

This role is ideal for an engineer with hands-on experience in heavy fabrication and large weldments who enjoys working closely with production, solving technical manufacturing challenges, and taking ownership of projects from planning through completion.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll manage the technical aspects of complex manufacturing projects and work closely with production, customers, suppliers, and engineering teams. Key responsibilities include:

• Plan fabrication sequences, weld sequencing, fixturing, and distortion control for large weldments
• Develop manufacturing instructions, routers, bills of material, weld maps, inspection reports, and test documentation
• Determine material, fabrication, inspection, and testing requirements from customer drawings and specifications
• Plan and support heavy lifts, including rigging plans, lift points, and load paths
• Work with production teams to determine effective machining and manufacturing approaches
• Create test plans and support pressure, load, electrical, and other required testing
• Develop CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and fixture designs as needed
• Establish purchasing requirements and coordinate with outside vendors
• Provide technical guidance to production personnel throughout welding and assembly
• Communicate directly with customers, vendors, and customer engineering teams

What We’re Looking For

Qualified candidates should have most of the following:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Welding, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent trade progression
• 5+ years of manufacturing/fabrication engineering experience supporting weldments of 5+ tons and/or 20+ feet in at least one dimension
• Experience with weld sequence planning and distortion control for multi-pass, thick-section joints
• Experience planning and directing heavy lifts
• Working knowledge of GD&T for large machined weldments
• Strong ability to read fabrication drawings, machining drawings, technical specifications, GD&T, and AWS weld symbols
• Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, or similar
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills

Experience in heavy structural fabrication, pressure vessels, nuclear components, mining, shipbuilding, or power generation is especially valuable.

Experience with standards such as 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, NQA-1, ASME BPVC, MIL, DOE, or NAVSEA and ERP systems is also preferred.

Physical Requirements

This position requires regular walking, standing, reaching, stooping, crouching, and climbing, as well as the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
