Job summary

Washington State University is seeking a Veterinary Technician Assistant for the Large Animal Hospital. The role supports exams, diagnostics, treatment, anesthesia, surgery and recovery for large animals, with responsibilities across patient care, feeding, cleanliness, and observing health status.

The position is full-time in Pullman, WA, with evening/weekend shifts after training. Eligible for comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver; background checks apply.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience as an Animal Technician 2; OR equivalent education/experience.
  • 2 years of experience working with animals, hands on. Up to 1 year can be replaced with relevant coursework such as a veterinary assistant certificate or animal science degree.
  • Equine positions must be filled by individuals with hands on equine experience.
  • Ability to work 40-hours/week for 100% positions and 36-hours/week for 90% positions.
  • Must pass WSU radiation safety training exam first time it is available.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator; either full mask, half mask, or a PAPR.
  • Ability to work a variable shift that may include 10-hour shifts and/or weekends, overnights and evenings.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, at time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students, faculty, house officers, and technical staff during examination, diagnostic procedures, work-up, treatment, induction, anesthesia, surgery and recovery of large animal patients.
  • Assist in all aspects of patient care including feeding, maintaining hospital cleanliness, and observing animals for sickness or abnormalities.
  • Receive and discharge patients to designated clients or their representative.
  • Maintain case log database for callbacks, fiscal estimates and final bills, RDVM information, and case numbers.
