Responsibilities Include
  • Providing safe and reliable transportation to passengers by operating various vehicles, including sedans, vans, paratransit vans, limousines, taxis, shuttles, transit buses, school buses, and motor coaches, on fixed or changing routes.
  • Reporting maintenance issues to the Maintenance department per company procedures and avoiding unsafe vehicles.
  • Reporting for duty on time, maintaining scheduled routes safely and punctually.
  • Assisting passengers during evacuation in emergencies.
  • Reporting accidents or incidents immediately according to company policy.
  • Managing passenger and/or student behavior as per company policy.
  • Communicating problems or procedures to relevant personnel.
  • Keeping the vehicle interior clean and presentable.
  • Maintaining a neat and professional appearance.
  • Ensuring the vehicle is fueled properly according to procedures.
  • Completing all required paperwork, such as route sheets, time cards, and repair requests, promptly.
  • Fostering a cooperative attitude with colleagues, supervisors, and passengers to promote goodwill.
  • Preparing vehicles for adverse weather conditions, including cleaning windows and applying tire chains.
  • Using vehicle equipment safely and efficiently, including wheelchair lifts, radios, and emergency tools.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Additional responsibilities for Paratransit Drivers may include:

  • Transporting senior and/or disabled passengers according to pre-arranged schedules.
  • Providing individualized assistance using wheelchair lifts and other access devices to ensure safe and comfortable rides.
  • Allowing adequate time for boarding and disembarking for individuals with disabilities.
  • Previous experience as a Paratransit Driver is recommended.
Qualifications
  • Minimum age of 21 years; 25 years for Tennessee School Bus Drivers as per state law.
  • Possession or ability to obtain valid state licenses and certifications to operate company vehicles.
  • Meeting physical and medical requirements and passing substance abuse screening; subject to random testing.
  • Completion of training and regular participation in safety and in-service meetings.
  • Extensive knowledge of traffic rules and regulations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift and assist passengers as needed.
  • High dexterity and control over various vehicle types.
  • Practicing defensive driving at all times to prevent accidents.
  • Compliance with all applicable driver requirements at company, federal, and state levels.

Note: All applicants start as Driver Trainees, with comprehensive training provided. Upon successful completion, individuals are promoted to Driver roles.
