Job summary

The City of Clinton is seeking a Right of Way Landscaping Technician I to maintain rights-of-way, parks, and public grounds. This full-time role offers benefits and reports to the Right of Way Division Manager.

The ideal candidate will operate lawn and landscaping equipment, follow safety protocols, and contribute to city beautification and seasonal maintenance. A valid SC driver’s license is required; expect outdoor work in varying weather.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Minimum age 18.
• Valid South Carolina driver's license.
• General knowledge of lawn and landscaping equipment and operations.
• Ability to safely operate landscaping equipment, machinery, and hand tools.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Good judgment and a strong work ethic.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to communicate professionally with coworkers and the public.
• Ability to maintain regular and consistent attendance.
• Ability to work safely and comply with safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Mowing, edging, weed eating, and maintaining lawns and grounds.
• Trimming and pruning trees and shrubs.
• Planting, watering, and maintaining flowers and vegetation.
• Removing brush, debris, and litter.
• Maintaining rights-of-way, parks, sidewalks, and public areas.
• Safely operating mowers, tractors, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, blowers, and hand tools.
• Identifying and reporting safety hazards.
• Supporting city events and festivals as needed.

The City of Clinton is seeking a dependable, motivated, and safety-minded individual to join our team as a Right of Way Landscaping Technician I.

This is a full‑time position with benefits and reports to the Right of Way Division Manager or assigned designee.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a Right of Way Landscaping Technician I, you will help maintain City rights‑of‑way, parks, public grounds, landscaping, and other City property.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Mowing, edging, weed eating, and maintaining lawns and grounds


• Trimming and pruning trees and shrubbery


• Planting, watering, and maintaining flowers, trees, and other vegetation


• Removing brush, fallen limbs, weeds, litter, and debris


• Maintaining City rights‑of‑way, parks, sidewalks, curbs, and other public areas


• Safely operating lawn mowers, lawn tractors, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, blowers, and hand tools


• Identifying and reporting potential safety hazards


• Participating in the City's urban forestry efforts


• Assisting with setup, breakdown, and other duties associated with City special events and festivals


• Providing support to other City departments when needed


• Performing other duties as assigned

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The ideal candidate will be dependable, safety‑conscious, willing to learn, and able to work effectively as part of a team.

Minimum qualifications include:

• High school diploma or GED from an acceptable accredited high school, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience


• Minimum age of 18


• Valid South Carolina driver's license


• General knowledge of lawn and landscaping equipment and operations


• Ability to safely operate landscaping equipment, machinery, and hand tools


• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

• Ability to work safely and comply with City, OSHA, and other applicable safety requirements

PHYSICAL & WORKING CONDITIONS

This is an active, outdoor position. Applicants should be prepared to:

• Walk, stand, reach, stoop, crouch, and bend for extended periods


• Lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment as required by the position


• Operate lawn and landscaping equipment safely


• Work outdoors throughout the year in varying conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, rain, wind, dust, pollen, and similar environmental conditions


• Wear required personal protective equipment, including appropriate eye, hand, hearing, and foot protection
