Job summary

The Landscaper position at Block by Block ensures outdoor areas are well maintained, including mowing, planting, and weed control. You will operate various tools and equipment, ensure proper irrigation, and keep structures and beds tidy according to design plans.

Required: at least one year of landscaping experience, a high school diploma or GED, pesticide training as needed, and a valid driver’s license. Work is outdoors in all weather with provided gear.

• Ability to operate power equipment including mowers and trimmers.

Responsibilities

• Maintains outdoor areas: mowing lawns, fences, fountains, and flowerbeds.
• Operates a variety of maintenance equipment to complete tasks.
• Irrigates lawns and plants and keeps walkways and parking areas clean.
• Trims trees and vegetation and maintains beds and planters.
• Performs seasonal irrigation maintenance and general cleaning duties.

Job Description

Job Summary:

The Landscaper is in charge of maintaining outdoor areas in a good condition. like mowing lawns, maintaining structures such as fences and fountains, planting, watering and keeping tress and flowerbeds tidy and weeded, applying chemicals and fertilizers and using powered or hand equipment.

Essential Functions:

• Collects and discards litter or other waste materials.
• Operates a variety of maintenance equipment such as shovels, rakes, or saws to complete assignments.
• Operates power equipment and other vehicles such as 4 wheels and trailers, mowers, chainsaws, electric clippers, or other similar machines.
• Ensures proper hydration of lawns, trees, and plants using sprinkler systems, hoses, watering cans, or irrigation systems.
• Trims trees and vegetation and maintains flower beds.
• Maintains sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, burial sites, or other features; performs general cleaning and snow removal.
• Plans and cultivates lawns, turf, or gardens and, based on landscaping designs, determines further work that should occur.
• Delivers and spreads topsoil and/or straw over newly seeded areas.
• Prepares chemicals as needed for application by mixing according to directions.
• Applies fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs or trees by spraying or spreading.
• Where artificial turf is used, periodically replaces cushion pads; vacuums and disinfects turf after use.
• Performs regular and seasonal maintenance on irrigation systems including any necessary winterizing procedures.

Requirements

Required Skills

• Basic understanding of groundskeeping and landscaping practices and procedures.
• Ability to work efficiently and thoroughly.
• Ability to follow directions.
• Thorough understanding of how to care for various types of lawns, greenery, and plants.
• Ability to operate various types of power equipment including lawn mowers, trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other landscaping equipment.
• Ability to use hand tools required for landscaping.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments.

Education:

High School Diploma or GED

Requirements:

• At least one year experience as a landscaper.
• Completion of any applicable pesticide training required.
• Must possess a valid Driver's License.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods standing, walking, stretching, bending, climbing ladders, kneeling, and pulling.
• Must have ability to work outdoors in all type of weather with provided uniform and weather-related gear such as: coat, jacket, rain coat and pants, gloves, hats.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
• Must be physically able to operate power equipment.
