Job summary

CW Resources in Newport, RI seeks a dedicated landscaping crew lead to supervise field teams on commercial sites. You will guide planting, mulching, irrigation, and maintenance tasks, while ensuring safety and quality.

This role emphasizes training, scheduling support, and timely reporting to project managers, with emphasis on OSHA standards and teamwork in a fast-paced outdoor environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or technical certificate.
  • 2–3 years of experience in commercial landscaping, grounds management, or landscape construction.
  • 1+ years of landscaping crew lead experience.
  • Basic understanding of horticulture, turf care, irrigation systems, and landscape construction techniques.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and landscape-specific safety practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Teams, Outlook, Excel).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access to restricted or government properties.

Responsibilities

  • Lead landscaping crews in planting, mulching, pruning, turf care, irrigation, hardscape, and site cleanup.
  • Support Crew Leaders and Project Managers by reinforcing instructions and training new team members.
  • Assist with scheduling, material tracking, and daily progress documentation while remaining field-oriented.
  • Participate in routine inspections to verify quality, contract compliance, and report deficiencies.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot mowers, trimmers, blowers, skid steers, and irrigation tools safely.
  • Enforce OSHA and PPE requirements and environmental standards on site.
  • Assist Project Manager with urgent site needs to protect client property and service continuity.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Work directly with landscaping crews performing tasks such as planting, mulching, pruning, turf care, irrigation troubleshooting, hardscape assistance, and site cleanup to maintain quality and productivity.
  • Support Crew Leaders and Project Managers by reinforcing instructions, helping train new team members, promoting safe work habits, and modeling teamwork and professionalism.
  • Assist with scheduling, material tracking, and daily progress documentation while keeping office time minimal to remain present in the field.
  • Participate in routine inspections to identify deficiencies, verify quality, ensure contract compliance, and communicate findings to the Project Manager for corrective action.
  • Help operate, maintain, and troubleshoot landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, skid steers, and irrigation tools, ensuring safe and proper use.
  • Help enforce OSHA regulations, PPE requirements, equipment safety protocols, and environmental standards to maintain a safe job site.
  • Support the Project Manager in responding to urgent site needs such as storm damage, irrigation issues, or safety hazards to protect client property and maintain service continuity.

  • Noise exposure: regular exposure to noise from mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and construction equipment; hearing protection is provided and required.
  • Terrain navigation: safely moving across uneven ground, soft soil, gravel, slopes, and wet or slippery surfaces while carrying tools or materials.
  • Extended physical activity: sustained physical effort for long periods, including walking job sites, assisting crews, and performing hands‑on tasks during peak seasons.
  • Vehicle & equipment transport: loading, unloading, and securing tools, trailers, and materials.
  • Potential hazards: exposure to sharp tools, moving equipment, falling branches, irrigation water pressure, and construction‑related hazards; safety training and PPE are mandatory.
