Casino Del Sol in Tucson, AZ is seeking a Landscaper 1 to keep the grounds and outside areas clean and well-maintained, including lawns and parking lots. This is the first of four classifications; incumbents are supervised and generally do not make independent decisions.

You will perform soil tests, mow, plant, install irrigation support, maintain landscaping around the property, operate mowers and hand tools, and assist with event cleanup.

Qualifications

  • One (1) year of landscaping or groundskeeping experience.
  • Must successfully pass Landscaper 1 exercise.
  • Must have a valid Arizona Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and special events as needed.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screening per company policy.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a valid gaming license/background check.

Responsibilities

Position: Landscaper 1
Department: Facilities
Job Summary:

Keeps the grounds and outside areas - including lawn areas and parking lots - clean and free of debris. This is the first in a series of four (4) classifications. Incumbents are supervised closely and generally do not make independent decisions or judgments.

Duties and Responsibilities (specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):

  • Performs soil tests and amends soil, as directed.
  • Rakes leaves and mows lawns.
  • Prepares the grounds prior to planting seeds or young plants.
  • Installs weed fabric and ground covers; assists with installation of irrigation systems.
  • Maintains all landscaping around the Casino and Hotel property to include Parking lots, Parking Structures, entrances, surrounding areas, and pool deck area.
  • Maintains flowers, bushes, trees and shrubs for plant health and visual appeal. Plants seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plans, grass, ground cover, trees and shrubs; applies mulch for protection. Changes-out plants according to season and special event directives. Plants and cultivates lawns and gardens.
  • Maintains lawns and turf by mowing and edging lawns using power mowers and edgers.
  • Assists in tree, shrub, and flower care, including planting, seeding, transplanting, pruning, removal, and checking for disease.
  • Waters trees, shrubs, and lawns and performs irrigation activities.
  • Clears debris, rolls the ground, and removes weeds.
  • Sprays for weeds and insects using unrestricted chemicals, as directed.
  • Assists in the maintenance of parking lots and other surfaces including asphalt repairs, minor masonry, plastering, laying pavers, and spreading gravel, rock, and bark.
  • Installs and removes outdoor signs, parking and traffic control barriers, and overhead banners, as required.
  • Performs in trash cleanup before, during, and after special events.
  • Operates power lawn mowers, edgers, hand tools, and other equipment related to landscaping activities.
  • Uses hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge and brush trimmers, and axes.
  • Operates pick-up trucks and flat-rack trucks for hauling purposes and for trash and debris removal.
  • Performs minor maintenance and repair on equipment and tools, as required.
  • Provides courteous service and is cordial to team members and guests.
  • Completes requests and services promptly and in the allotted time.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work areas throughout the shift practicing clean-as-you-go procedures.
  • Follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies; uses as directed.
  • Ensures uniform and personal appearance is clean and professional.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment/tools/supplies; identify and properly use hand and power tools.
  • Supports and enforces departmental as well as the GED’s policies and procedures, and applicable regulatory policies, such as completion of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Turns in found articles in accordance with Facilities and GED policies and procedures.
  • Power washes walls, sidewalks, walkways, pillars and spills. Handles minor repairs and patches of asphalt. Cleans-out drainage ditches and culverts, gather and remove litter.
  • Operates specialized power and motorized equipment such as blowers, hedge trimmers, light tractors, lawn mowers, lawn edger’s, chain saws, various lifts, sod cutters, shedders, tugs and turf aerators and roto-tillers.
  • Uses hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, hedge and brush trimmers, axes, chainsaws rakes, loppers, hand saws, pruning shears, shovels, hoes, fertilizer spreaders, pesticide sprayers, sod knifes, and hedge shears.
  • Maintains all chemicals in assigned areas with proper Safety Data Sheet (SDS) labeling.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
  • Attends periodic departmental and GED meetings; attends professional and personal development training programs.
  • Offers warm and sincere welcome/farewell to guests using a guest’s name, when possible, and making good eye contact.
  • Provides attentive, courteous, and professional service to all guests and team members, striving to always exceed their expectations.
  • Answers questions about general property information and amenities.
  • Displays a diplomatic, polished, and professional demeanor in the workplace.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Essential functions of the position:

  • Must be able to constantly lift, carry, and move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 100 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to reach above shoulder height, handle, pull, kneel, stoop, squat, grip, crouch, climb, crawl, twist, push, balance and bend for duties, including inspections and work in confined or cramped spaces, indoor/outdoor events, uneven surfaces, and up or down stairs.
  • May be exposed to chemical, fumes, cleaning agents and other hazardous materials.
  • Must be able to perform primary job duties while exposed to inclement weather, including extreme heat, cold, heavy rain, or high-humidity environments for extended durations.
  • Must be able to follow both verbal and written directions.
  • Must be able to read, write, and effectively communicate with all guests, team members and internal/external vendors positively and professionally.
  • Must be able to work in environments with high noise levels, flashing lights, smoking areas, and large crowds.
  • Must be able to work in a high-pressure/fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to Travel/Work at any Casino Del Sol properties.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic and routine landscaping methods, techniques, materials, and equipment related to the job.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to use cleaning materials, equipment, and methods according to pre-determined standards.
  • Ability to learn and meet schedules and timelines; apply knowledge of the schedules, procedures and use of the equipment and supplies utilized for the position.
  • Ability to maintain tools and equipment assigned in cleaning.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to complete all required program Training Courses as needed within a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One (1) year of landscaping or groundskeeping experience.
  • Must successfully pass Landscaper 1 exercise.
  • Must have a valid Arizona Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to work (may require shift changes), weekends, holidays, and special events), as needed.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening in accordance with company policy.
  • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school or General Equivalency Diploma.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish).
