Job summary

Feeding Tampa Bay is seeking an on-site landscaper to maintain our facilities in the Tampa Bay area. You will manage lawns, entryways, and plant beds, performing seasonal care and basic exterior upkeep.

The role requires physical stamina, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, operating commercial mowers and power edgers, and working in heat. A Florida driver’s license and 2 years of landscape experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of commercial landscaping experience.
• Valid Florida driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Experience with sub-tropical plants and turf.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Able to work in heat and humidity.
• Maintenance skills including window cleaning and waste management.

Responsibilities

• Independent Grounds Management: daily upkeep for Feeding Tampa Bay locations.
• Turf care: mow, edge, and maintain subtropical grasses.
• Prune and maintain trees and ornamental beds.
• Waste management: empty outdoor cans, replace liners, pick up litter.
• Exterior Window Cleaning: wash ground-level windows and doors.
• Irrigation Oversight: adjust timers and check for leaks.
• Storm Cleanup: clear fallen fronds and debris after storms.
• Pest and Weed Control: identify and treat pests and weeds.
• Equipment Care: operate and maintain mowers, edgers, and blowers.

SUMMARY

The on-staff landscaper and groundskeeper maintains our facilities in the Tampa Bay area with limited daily supervision. This team member will manage lawns, entryways, and plant beds through sub-tropical heat and storm conditions, while also handling light external facility maintenance to keep the entire property clean and professional.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

• Independent Grounds Management: Take ownership of daily property upkeep, prioritizing tasks with minimal direct oversight for all Feeding Tampa Bay locations; Causeway Center, Trinity Cafe & Feeding Pinellas.
• Warm-Season Turf Care: Mow, edge, and care for sub-tropical grasses like St. Augustine, Bahia, or Zoysia turf. Ability to identify and respond to adverse conditions and situations such as fire ants, chinch bugs, scorching, rot, etc.
• Plant Maintenance: Prune and maintain palms, bushes, olive, elm and oak trees, and maintain warm-climate ornamental beds and groundcover.
• Waste Management: Empty outdoor garbage cans, replace liners, and pick up litter across parking lots, plazas, and common areas daily.
• Exterior Window Cleaning: Wash and squeegee ground-level exterior windows and entry doors to keep glass clear of dust, pollen, and water spots.
• Irrigation Oversight: Adjust commercial sprinkler timers to comply with Southwest Florida Water Management District (Swiftmud) watering restrictions and inspect lines for leaks.
• Storm Cleanup: Rapidly clear fallen palm fronds, branches, standing water, and debris following heavy afternoon thunderstorms.
• Pest and Weed Control: Identify and treat common Florida pests (like chinch bugs) and invasive weeds safely using approved commercial methods.
• Equipment Care: Safely operate and maintain FTB vehicle, commercial-grade zero-turn mowers, line trimmers, hedge clippers, and blowers.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Autonomy: Proven ability to work reliably under limited supervision, manage time effectively, and self-direct daily tasks.
• Florida Landscape Experience: Minimum 2 years of commercial landscaping experience specifically handling sub-tropical plants and turf.
• Valid FL driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Facilities Maintenance: Experience with light exterior building upkeep, including window cleaning and waste management.
• Heat and Climate Stamina: Ability to perform heavy physical labor, lift up to 50 pounds, and stand for long hours in high heat and humidity.
• Machinery Knowledge: Proven skill operating commercial-grade mowers, power edgers, and pressure washers.
• Professional Conduct: Keep a clean uniform and interact politely with tenants, corporate clients, and guests.
• Certifications: Valid driver’s license required; Best Management Practices (GI-BMP) or Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance certification is highly preferred.
• Willing to actively participate in mission-driven programs, such as food distribution initiatives and disaster relief operations as needed.
• All internal candidates must be in good standing with no corrective actions within the last 90 days.
