Job summary

Gabriel Group is seeking an Entry-Level Landscape Technician I to support installation, enhancement, irrigation-support, and property improvement under supervision. You will learn plants, materials, grading, drainage, and installation methods while contributing to team goals.

The role is outdoor, part-time, non-exempt with pay starting at $16.00–$20.00 per hour. No prior degree required; a valid driver's license is preferred where applicable.

Qualifications

  • Previous landscaping experience is preferred; equivalent construction, outdoor labor, or equipment experience may be considered.
  • Ability to learn plants, materials, measurements, grading, drainage, and installation methods.
  • Dependable attendance, professional conduct, and ability to work effectively as part of a crew.
  • Must comply with drug testing and background screening requirements.
  • A valid driver's license is preferred and may be required for assigned duties.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with installing plants, trees, shrubs, flowers, mulch, soil, stone, gravel, edging, sod, and seed.
  • Dig, rake, grade, backfill, compact, and prepare work areas as directed.
  • Assist with drainage, erosion-control, irrigation, planting-bed, and landscape enhancement projects.
  • Measure and mark basic work areas using tapes, stakes, string lines, and job instructions.
  • Use hand tools and approved powered equipment safely after training and authorization.
  • Load, unload, organize, and protect plants, tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Follow job plans, installation notes, manufacturer instructions, and crew direction.
  • Protect utilities, structures, existing landscaping, vehicles, and client property.
  • Report hidden conditions, property damage, material shortages, hazards, or plan conflicts immediately.
  • Complete required timekeeping, photographs, job forms, and notes and assist with snow operations when assigned.

Entry-Level Landscape Technician Position (Pay starting at $16.00-$20.00/hr.)

Position Summary

The Landscape Technician I performs basic landscape installation, enhancement, irrigation-support, and property improvement work under the supervision of a Crew Lead, higher-level Landscape Technician, or Field Supervisor.

This is the first position in the landscape technician progression and focuses on developing knowledge of plants, materials, measurements, grading, drainage, and installation methods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with installing plants, trees, shrubs, flowers, mulch, soil, stone, gravel, edging, sod, and seed.
  • Dig, rake, grade, backfill, compact, and prepare work areas as directed.
  • Assist with drainage, erosion-control, irrigation, planting-bed, and landscape enhancement projects.

Required Qualifications
  • Internal candidates advancing from Lawn Maintenance Technician III must obtain the NALP Landscape Technician Certification through the company's membership program before promotion.
  • External hires entering as Landscape Technician I must obtain the NALP Landscape Technician Certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Previous landscaping experience is preferred; equivalent construction, outdoor labor, or equipment experience may be considered.
  • Ability to learn plants, materials, measurements, grading, drainage, and installation methods.

Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • Stand, walk, kneel, bend, squat, reach, push, pull, climb, and perform repetitive physical work for extended periods.
  • Regularly lift and carry 50 pounds or more and move plants, soil, stone, pipe, lumber, and other landscape materials.
  • Work in trenches, on slopes, around excavations, utilities, vehicles, machinery, traffic, loud noise, dust, pollen, fuel, and chemicals.
  • Work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, wind, snow, humidity, mud, and other inclement weather.
  • Work early mornings, evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and weather-dependent schedules when required.
Advancement

May advance to Landscape Technician II after demonstrating safe tool and equipment use, knowledge of common plants and materials, ability to follow measurements and installation instructions, independent completion of basic tasks, consistent quality, reliable attendance, current certification, completion of required training, and management approval.
