Job summary

City of Griffin is seeking a Landscape Technician to maintain city grounds, parks and rights-of-way. You will operate mowing and other landscaping equipment, assist with graves, install footstones, and perform routine maintenance of tools and vehicles outdoors in all weather.

The role requires physical stamina, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and a valid Georgia driver's license. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with competitive benefits and a generous pension plan.

Qualifications

• Minimum six months of landscape maintenance experience.
• Possession of a valid State of Georgia driver's license and acceptable driving history.

Responsibilities

• Assists with the opening and closing of graves.
• Assists with the installation of footstones and monuments.
• Assists in tamping, seeding and strawing lots.
• Assists the public in the location of grave sites.
• Cleans mausoleum breezeway and chapel.
• Completes required reports.
• Maintains rights-of-way; removes trash and debris; mows grass.
• Maintains landscaping on city grounds.
• Maintains and repairs assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment.
• Purchases needed supplies and equipment.
• Repairs sunken graves and footstones.
• Plants, prunes, trims, sprays and waters trees and shrubs.
• Performs related duties.

Job description

The Landscape Technician Landscapes and maintains related City grounds, parks and rights-of-way using mowing and other landscaping equipment. Essential duties include the following.

Position Requirements

• Employee must have the visual ability to observe and detect dangerous obstacles, other vehicles or equipment, and pedestrians.
• The employee may be exposed to noise, machinery with moving parts, objects that move, dust, dirt, water and gas; therefore. personal protective equipment is provided and required.
• The work is typically performed while mostly bending, crouching, stooping, standing and walking.
• All work is performed outdoors in all forms of weather that may be very hot, cold, or wet. Walking, climbing, pushing and lifting will be frequent.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
• Employee will use a variety of tools requiring a high degree of dexterity.
• Must have clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interpret and relay such information.
• Skill in comprehending and following workplace safety rules and regulations.
• Skill in the use of a variety of job-related equipment and tools.
• Skill in the installation, repair and maintenance of landscaping.
• Skill in the repair and maintenance of job-related tools and equipment.
• Minimum six months of experience with landscape maintenance principles and practices.
• Possession of a valid State of Georgia driver's license, acceptable driving history, and the ability to drive a vehicle as needed.

***This position has an hourly pay rate of $20.40 per hour and includes a competitive benefits package with a generous pension plan.***
