City of Mount Holly is seeking a Landscape Technician to support landscape operations, performing mowing, trimming, pruning, applying pesticides, and maintaining plant health across city grounds.
You will install landscape projects, select and source plant material, dig and plant, water and care for vegetation, and help prepare facilities for rentals and events. This hourly, non-exempt role requires a valid NC driver's license and ability to work outdoors in varied conditions.
Pay Range: $39,279.66 - $53,420.34

Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled manual labor tasks and other duties primarily supporting landscape maintenance. This position may at times fulfill other maintenance duties such as special event setup duties and/or janitorial duties. Work is performed under the supervision of the Deputy Public Works Director of Building and Maintenance.
The work is heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The work may require specific physical characteristics and abilities such as heightened strength, mobility, dexterity and full range of motion. The following additional physical abilities are also required: manual dexterity, hearing, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, visual acuity and walking. The work is generally performed in inside and outside environmental conditions and extremely hot and cold temperatures. Work is also subject to noise and dust and involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places. Use of safe work practices with equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals are required. The work involves risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g. working around moving parts or machines, irritating chemicals, etc. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or equipment such as masks, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shield.
Knowledge of the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of the equipment to which assigned. Knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation. Knowledge of occupational hazards and proper safety precautions involved in the operation of assigned equipment. Ability to interpret and apply compliance with OSHA regulations, including PPE. Knowledge in irrigation operation and repair. Knowledge of the application of turf products to control weeds, fungus and fertilization. Skill with equipment mechanical repair and preventative maintenance. Skill in problem solving. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other co-workers, supervisors, and the public. Ability to respond with courtesy to citizens. Ability to plan, obtain materials needed, and complete tasks on schedule. Ability to work with others in a team atmosphere. Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions. Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions. Ability to read, write and communicate directions.
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED and prior experience in landscaping and gardening; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
