Job summary

Doctor Lawn Landscape Management, a family owned company based in Great Falls, MT, seeks a Production Manager to guide field operations and crews for landscape maintenance and snow removal. You will coordinate crews, budgets, materials, and schedules, ensuring safety, quality, and client satisfaction across branches.

Responsibilities include hiring, training, and supervising staff; managing project budgets; and ensuring efficient production flow.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on field experience in maintenance and snow removal with 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Degree in landscape-related field or related certification preferred.
  • Bi-Lingual English/Spanish – preferred.
  • Pesticide applicators license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead production teams and field staff to ensure safety, efficiency, and quality.
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials across jobs and budgets.
  • Hire, train, review, and when needed terminate field staff.
  • Monitor budgets and report deviations to maximize outcomes.
  • Set up production crews and allocate hours per shift.
  • Oversee landscape and snow removal services per contract specs.
  • Collaborate with Account Manager and customers to meet expectations.
  • Carry out site quality checks and ensure equipment availability.

Job description

Doctor Lawn Landscape Management is a family owned and operated commercial landscape maintenance and snow removal company based in Great Falls, Montana, with branch locations in Helena and coming soon to Bozeman.

The Landscape Maintenance Production Manager is knowledgeable in all aspects of commercial landscape maintenance and snow removal. This position manages our production teams and field staff, and is defined below.

Production Manager

Defined Roll: The Production Manager is responsible for managing all field operations within the branch. Coordinates the procurement and schedules use of resources, including labor, equipment, and materials for any active contract or work order. Ensures a safe, efficient, positive, and quality-driven work environment while promoting growth and development of field staff.

Production Manager Responsibilities:

  • Work with Account Manager to understand client’s needs, expectations, and schedule
  • Determine number of team members, teams, and resources needed to complete jobs
  • Along with Account Manager, hire, train, review, and terminate field staff as needed
  • Manage project budgets and know where each project is at all times. Immediately reports to Account Manager any jobs deviating from budgets of time, schedule, cost, or any other factor so appropriate adjustments can be made to maximize the end result
  • Set up production teams on dashboard and determine number of hours each crew is available to work during a day/week
  • Create emergency work order tickets if Account Manager is not available
  • Ensure jobsite’s quality and appearance meet client and company standards
  • Answer production questions that may be brought up by the production teams
  • Daily review of budgeted vs actual hours on a crew-by-crew basis and report results to crews and Account Manager
  • Daily review of indirect time for production crews (shop time, travel time)
  • Daily review of damage (equipment, vehicle, property, etc.) and cost to repair on a crew-by-crew basis
  • Review and approval of time for production teams
  • When needed, meet with Account Manager and Customer
  • Manage all activities involved in completing landscape services, including the coordination of all materials, people, equipment, and subcontractors required to fulfill job specifications
  • Manage all activities involved in completing snow removal services, including the coordination of all materials, people, equipment, and subcontractors required to fulfill job specifications.
  • Communicate with Shop Manager, all vehicles, tools, and equipment needed to complete contracts and work orders as well as communicating any equipment repairs and maintenance needed.
  • Ensure that any landscape, irrigation, or snow removal materials needed are adequately stocked
  • Perform hands on work with crews as needed to meet work and scheduling demands

Employee and Safety Management

  • Understand new hire onboarding process and ensure accurate completion of all required items
  • Communicate with, counsel, train, discipline, develop, and review field staff
  • Advise production personnel of daily start times, huddle and training times, holiday days off, as well as communicate any delays such as rain, frost, snow, etc.
  • Provide hands on training and support of production personnel in areas including, but not limited to, operation of equipment, maintenance techniques, safety, and quality standards
  • Conduct morning huddles and stretch with production crews every morning along with a weekly safety training (weekly safety meeting takes place of the morning huddle)
  • Communicate goals to be accomplished, and emphasizing quality and efficiency of operations
  • Supervise field staff, keeping attendance records, enforcing proper uniform and safety equipment use, and approving time cards.
  • Monitor safety record of crews and minimize accidents to personnel and equipment
  • Monitor costs of equipment, vehicle, and property damage on a crew-by-crew basis
  • Ensure crews are appropriately attired and groomed
  • Communicate Doctor Lawn’s Core values to production personnel
  • Enforce Company and Safety Policies
  • Manage crew bonus programs

Administrative and Financial

  • Understand and execute maintenance contracts and work orders
  • Manage and maintain administrative record keeping for production personnel including, but not limited to, timesheets, weekly schedules, performance reviews, write ups, and promotions.
  • Weekly reporting of efficiency and damage to Branch Manager
  • Order materials needed for job and monitor costs and deliveries
  • Request purchase order prior to purchasing and use in accordance with company guidelines
  • Responsible for proper storage, use, and training required for branch equipment and vehicles
  • Implement and enforce policies and procedures as issued by management

Other Duties

  • Ensure vehicle cleanliness and maintenance to Doctor Lawn standards
  • Perform minor equipment repairs when Shop Manager is not available such as pull cord replacement, tire replacement, belt repair, tension adjustments, spark plugs, etc.
  • Snow removal: must be available nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • Drive trucks/trailers from site to site
  • Pass and maintain DOT physical
  • Perform heavy lifting/pushing of various landscaping equipment and materials, including, but not limited to, backpack blowers, large containers of mulch/ plant material, various sizes of lawnmowers, etc.
  • Carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Lift branches and limbs
  • Push, pull, grip and squeeze various tools, products and/or items
  • Spray various pesticides/herbicides

Work Environment

  • Work hours vary up to 12 hours per day
  • Work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, precipitation)
  • Noise level may be loud at times and use of ear plugs may be required (e.g., outdoor conditions, running mowers, string trimming)

Desired Skills & Experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to operate various landscape and snow removal machinery including, but not limited to, skid steer, mini excavator, loader, mowers, edgers, backpack blowers, salters, snowplows
  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service to managers, employees, and clients
  • Solid knowledge of plant and turf identification and care, including some disease and insect knowledge
  • Basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, area and square feet
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, of the English language
  • Must possess a valid and current U.S. Driver’s License
  • Supervisory skills
  • Problem solving skills including reasoning and judgment
  • Must be able to pass drug test and background check

Education and/or experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on field experience in maintenance and snow removal with 2 years of prior supervisory experience
  • Two- or four-year degree in a landscape related degree, general degree with coursework in the landscape field or certification by a landscape association (NALP, PLNA, etc.). Preferred but not required
  • Bi-Lingual English/Spanish – Preferred but not required
  • Leadership Course – Preferred but not required
  • Pesticide Applicators License
