Position Summary

The Dallas College Facilities Management Department supports thefacility needs for Dallas College while providing responsiblestewardship and efficient operation of the College's physicalassets. The Facilities Management Department is responsible forapproximately 5,000,000 sq. ft. of physical space and over 1400acres of land, located across multiple locations in Dallas County.The position of Landscape Services Irrigation Technician supportsthat effort through the performance of skilled craftwork in thelandscaping trade.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Have a strong knowledge of landscape design, power tools, waterconservation, irrigation controllers, maintenance, and repair.

• Experience in light to medium sized construction equipment suchas skid loaders, excavators, and trenchers.

• Understand various methods of installation, troubleshooting andrepair systems.

• Demonstrate intermediate skill in reading, diagnosing, andrepairing irrigation systems problems.

• Able to perform routine maintenance on equipment and determiningwhen and what kind of maintenance is needed.

• Ability to determine causes of operating errors and deciding howto complete and solve the issue.

• Demonstrates an ability to analyze information and evaluatingresults to choose the best solution and solve problems.

• Ability to utilize computer technology to access data andcommunicate with others.

• Ability to maintain written equipment maintenance records.

• Ability to communicate effectively with internal/externalstakeholders and constituents within the Dallas Collegecommunity.

• Strong knowledge and experience providing effective customerservice.

• Must have the ability to maintain the security and integrity ofthe critical infrastructure of Dallas College.

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending over, stooping,twisting, talking, hearing, climbing ladders, using stairs,reaching overhead, crouching, kneeling, or crawling. Pushing orpulling 10-50 lbs., lifting 10-80 lbs., carrying 10-50 lbs.,repetitive use of arms and legs, driving, balancing, manualdexterity-fine manipulation or grasping. May require working inadverse weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma plus three (3) years of relatedexperience.
• Must be a Licensed Irrigation Technician or ability to obtainlicense within six (6) months.
• Ability to work extended hours beyond the regular 8:00 am to5:00 pm workday including nights and weekends.
• Current and valid Texas driver’s license required for offsitetravel.
• Bilingual or multilingual preferred.

Will be subject to a criminal background check. Somepositions may be subject to a fingerprint check.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for maintenance and repair of irrigation systemsusing hand powered tools and/or equipment.

• Ensures the highest quality of landscaping maintenance workacross all Dallas College locations.

• Maintain and repair irrigation systems and maintains assignedequipment.

• Report equipment repair problems to the Facilities Manager.

• Responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, anddesigns of irrigation systems that address water conservationrequirements according to the Texas Commission on Environmentalquality.

• Responsible for operating and maintaining equipment utilizedboth for irrigation and landscape related functions.

• Performs preventative maintenance procedures on irrigationsystems and pump stations.

• Requisitions and maintains inventory of parts needed forirrigation system maintenance and expansions.

• Maintains related records and drawings.

• Troubleshoots low voltage irrigation electrical systems,irrigation valve malfunctions, basic irrigation pump stationmalfunctions and basic irrigation time clock malfunctions.

• Works with other facilities teammates to ensure the highestlevel of customer service and provides safe and healthy grounds forDallas College students, faculty, and staff.

• Assists other Facilities Management teams as required.

• Completes required Dallas College Professional Developmenttraining hours per academic year.

• Performs other duties as assigned.
