Job summary

The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising is seeking a Landscape Designer to assist in developing site design projects from concept to construction documentation. The role requires proficiency in AutoCAD and strong design sensibility, along with a bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or Civil Engineering.

Ideal candidates will have relevant internships or experience, strong communication skills, and an understanding of landscape architecture principles. This position is based in Pennington, New Jersey.

Qualifications

Responsibilities
  • Work under the direction of a registered Landscape Architect to assist in the development of site design projects from concept design to construction documentation.
  • Investigate a variety of variables, including site analysis, building operation, vehicular and pedestrian traffic, site grading and storm drainage.
  • Conduct site visits and analyses, and assist the project Landscape Architect with illustrating design using a combination of hand‑drawn and computer‑rendered graphics.
  • Provide AutoCAD production support during concept and schematic design, design development, and construction document phases.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and advanced 3D modeling, computational design, and rendering with programs such as Grasshopper, Lumion, Enscape.
  • Internships or prior work experience as a landscape designer.
  • Hand sketching and drawing skills.
  • Strong design sensibility: creativity, curiosity, clear visual communication, and rigorous design with iterative concept exploration through multiple platforms.
  • Understanding of technical aspects of landscape architecture and associated terminology, including construction materials and processes, grading and drainage, plant materials and planting design.
  • Preference given to candidates in the tri‑state area (NJ/PA/NY).
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or Civil Engineering.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to prepare site plans and understand the principles of grading and drainage.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
