Job summary

Understory seeks a curious, design-driven Landscape Architect to join our in-person team. You will contribute to research, concept studies, graphics, and renderings, extending to construction documentation, detailing, specifications, and construction administration.

The role also involves marketing materials and regional site visits with travel. The ideal candidate has a BLA/MLA in Landscape Architecture, strong AutoCAD, Rhino/Lumion, and Adobe CC skills, and excellent English communication.

Qualifications

• Must have a BLA/ MLA from an accredited Landscape Architecture program.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Rhino/Lumion, and Adobe Creative Suite for producing graphics and drawings.
• Experience creating construction documents and detailing for landscape projects.
• Strong written and verbal English communication.
• Knowledge of native and adaptive Northeastern US plant palettes.

Responsibilities

• Carry out design and production from research to construction documentation.
• Create illustrative plans, diagrams, and renderings for presentations.
• Assist with marketing materials and site visits within the region.
• Coordinate with clients and consultants and maintain project workflow.
• Multitask across multiple projects simultaneously.

Job description

Understory creates ecological landscape designs across a range of project types and scales. We foster a collaborative environment and design process that elevates creativity, research, intuition, beauty, horticulture, and the contemporary expression of ecological systems to create impactful landscape interventions.

We are seeking a curious, creative, highly intuitive individual with a keen sense of humor and sharp critical thinking skills.

The ideal candidate possesses the desire, skills, judgment, creativity, and capability to carry out design and production on the full range of the practice’s work from research, concept studies, graphics, and renderings to construction documentation, detailing, specifications, and construction administration. The position will also entail contributing to non-project work that may include marketing, promotional materials, and site visits with travel within the region. Candidates should demonstrate the following:

• Facility with grading, planting design, detailing, and construction documents
• Graphic sensibility – illustrative plans, diagrams, and perspective / 3D renderings
• Facility in crafting design presentations, sourcing design precedents, and graphic layout
• Experience communicating professionally with clients and consultants
• High level of English language written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge of native and adaptive plants (Northeastern US)
• Ability to multitask and manage workload across multiple projects simultaneously
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Adobe CC, Microsoft Word and Excel
• Proficiency with Rhino, Lumion or other 3D/rendering programs

Bachelors in Landscape Architecture (BLA) or graduate degree (MLA) from an accredited Landscape Architecture program.
