Job description

SE Group is seeking a licensed Landscape Architect to help manage our expanding project portfolio of outdoor recreation-based design and planning projects throughout the Intermountain West. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing practice, collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, and work on transformative projects in this outdoor recreation mecca.

We are looking for someone who has experience and passion for the world of outdoor recreation - with project experience in the following project types: parks and playgrounds (state, county, and local), open space and trails, active transportation, community master planning, mountain bike parks, campgrounds, and recreation hospitality projects. This role is ideal for a landscape architect with project management experience who can move fluidly between planning and design, client relationships, mentoring, and project delivery.

If you're excited about the idea of collaborating with some of the leading voices in outdoor recreation design as we expand our footprint in the Intermountain West - we want to hear from you!

About SE Group

At SE Group, our mission is to enrich people's lives through the power of outdoor recreation - turning local insight and bold ideas into plans, places, and experiences that help communities thrive, landscapes endure, and outdoor recreation to inspire.

SE Group has been the industry leader in the planning and design of mountain resorts since 1958. Over the years, our team has grown to include landscape architects, community planners, environmental analysts, and economic advisors that are pioneering how communities and destinations across the country think about recreation, tourism, and outdoor spaces. Whether it's a multi-season mountain resort or a schoolyard playground, our clients trust us to lead them from the first spark of inspiration to the final phase of implementation.

With hubs in Utah, Colorado, and Vermont, we are lucky to live in the heart of some of the amazing recreational communities we serve. We all share a passion for getting outside (in its many diverse forms), and SE Group is committed to offering an exceptional employee experience that honors this, while promoting collaboration, mentorship, growth - and laughter!

What You'll Do

This position will primarily serve our Communities and Public Lands market sectors while collaborating with our established teams of Landscape Architects, Community Planners, Recreation Planners, and Mountain Planners to pursue and deliver projects that help communities and public agencies create exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities.

The key responsibilities include:

  • Lead planning and design projects from early visioning and feasibility through conceptual design, master planning, design development, and, where applicable, construction administration.

  • Facilitate on-site project meetings, design charrettes, stakeholder workshops, public engagement events, and client presentations.

  • Manage multiple projects at one time, including scopes, budgets, schedules, deliverables, team coordination, and client communication.

  • Collaborate across SE Group’s team of Landscape Architects, Community Planners, Recreation Planners, and Mountain Planners to deliver integrated, creative, and implementable solutions.

  • Mentor junior team members and help build internal capacity around landscape architecture.

  • Support business development initiatives, including client relationship management, project proposals, and lead generation.

What We're Looking For

Experience: Licensed Landscape Architect required (UT-preferred, but other intermountain west states applicable). This position is designed for candidates that have 8+ years of relevant experience in landscape architecture and planning. Preference will be given to individuals who have public sector experience working with federal, state, county, and local communities.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program. Other professional backgrounds and credentials will be considered pending their relevance to the responsibilities, skills, and traits of the position.

  • Strong artistic and creative vision combined with strict attention and discipline to humanhealth, safety, and welfare.

  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams, project scopes, fees, schedules, deliverables, and client expectations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaborating internally and presenting to clients.

  • Confidence leading public presentations, stakeholder meetings, workshops, and design charrettes.

  • Demonstrated success in developing client relationships and contributing meaningfully to business development opportunities.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and 3d modeling programs; experience with Civil 3D or Revit preferred.

  • Understanding of the intermountain west's regional conditions that define project themes and technical details including plant knowledge, soil conditions, and fire and water considerations.

  • Irrigation design, detailing, documentation, and water modeling is preferred but not required.

  • Familiarity with project management software preferred (Asana, Unanet, Deltek)

  • SITES or LEED credentials are a plus.
