Job summary

A&E + SMA Design in Montana is seeking an experienced Landscape Architect to lead design efforts across commercial, residential, and public works projects. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop creative, sustainable solutions from concept through construction.

The role emphasizes communication with clients, coordination among designers and consultants, and delivering high-quality design documents that meet project requirements and schedules.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture is required or strongly preferred.
  • Licensure as Landscape Architect is preferred.
  • LEED or sustainability accreditation is desirable.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in landscape architecture.
  • Experience with commercial and residential design projects.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D modeling (SketchUp) required.
  • Experience managing projects from concept through construction.
  • Experience in client meetings, contract coordination, and preparing specifications.
  • Strong verbal, written, and graphic communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute on a variety of projects as our in-house landscape architect.
  • Work across studios and manage budgets, schedules, and deadlines.
  • Provide technical documentation for projects of varying size and scope.
  • Quality control of all deliverables across project stages.
  • Coordinate with designers, consultants, owners, and contractors.
  • Represent the firm in client communications throughout all stages.
  • Prepare and educate clients about defined terms in agreements.
  • Schedule and attend meetings with clients and project teams.
  • Maintain updates on project progress, milestones, and billing.

Your skill set.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture
  • Landscape Architectural licensure preferred
  • LEED or sustainability accreditation preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a landscape architecture capacity
  • Experience with commercial and residential design
  • Passion for design and landscape architecture, possessing an outstanding ability to communicate complex design ideas to audiences with varying degrees of design knowledge
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and design drafting and knowledge of 3D modeling software such as SketchUp
  • Demonstrated experience working through entire project process from concept to construction completion
  • Experience participating in client meetings, contract coordination and development of requirements and specifications
  • Possess strong verbal, written, and graphic communication skills
  • Explore innovative solutions for performative site design and infrastructural systems
  • Work effectively within a collaborative team environment and multi-disciplinary design teams
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously prioritizing within studio needs
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, or possess a work visa to legally work in the U.S.
A day in the life.
  • Contribute to a variety of different types of projects as our in house landscape architect
  • Work fluidly between studios assisting in multiple projects and tasks within specific budgets, schedules, and deadlines
  • Provide technical expertise to generate documents for projects ranging in size and scope
  • Ensure quality control on all deliverables
  • Understands the fundamental relationships and contractual obligations between the designers, consultants, owner and contractors
  • Represents A&E + SMA Design in all client communications in regular intervals between all stages of the agreement and post-agreement activities
  • Execute client agreements with defined scope and schedule, educating clients about the defined terms
  • Schedule, attend, and record required meetings with clients, project team members, and stakeholder groups
  • Maintain constant updates related to project completion, including schedule and billing milestones
  • Strive to innovate, learn, and improve, never settling for the status quo
