A&E + SMA Design is seeking a Construction Project Manager III/IV to join our Bozeman team. You will lead construction phase services, advocate for the owner, and coordinate with design professionals and contractors across southwest Montana.

The role offers autonomy in a satellite office setting with collaboration from the Construction Studio leadership. Applicants should have extensive PM experience and a track record of managing complex projects with diverse teams in a design-focused firm.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred
• 6+ years of progressively responsible experience in construction management, construction administration, owner's representation, or a related field
• Demonstrated experience managing multiple commercial, public, institutional, healthcare, or educational construction projects simultaneously
• Strong understanding of construction documents, specifications, and the relationship between design intent and construction execution
• Strong understanding of construction contracts (AIA and similar) and their application during the construction phase
• Knowledge of construction delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build, CM/GC, and Design-Build
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering plans and specifications
• Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects during the construction phase as part of a design team, ownership team, and/or contractor
• Exceptional organizational, communication, negotiation, and time-management skills
• Proven ability to identify issues, evaluate solutions, and resolve complex project challenges
• Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with owners, contractors, consultants, and internal project teams
• Experience mentoring junior staff is preferred
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Bluebeam, and construction management platforms such as Procore, Autodesk Build, or ProjectSight
• AIA, PE, PMP, CDT/CCCA, DBIA, or CCM certification preferred
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, or possess a valid U.S. work visa

Responsibilities

• Lead construction phase services for multiple projects from construction kickoff through closeout
• Serve as the owner's advocate and the design team's primary construction phase representative
• Manage submittal reviews, RFIs, change orders, contractor pay certifications, and project documentation
• Conduct constructability reviews during the design phase and provide recommendations to improve quality
• Monitor construction progress to ensure compliance with contract documents and specifications
• Conduct regular site observations and prepare field reports
• Lead project meetings and coordinate communication among owners, contractors, consultants, and design teams
• Monitor budgets, schedules, and internal construction administration efforts while mitigating risks
• Conduct final inspections, prepare punch lists, and assist with closeout activities
• Mentor junior staff and support other Construction Project Managers within the studio
• Uphold the firm's culture of collaboration, innovation, and client service
• Position based in Bozeman, MT with office, field, and client meetings
• Regular travel to Gallatin Valley and Montana sites as required
• Work includes site visits and varying weather conditions
• Typical 40-hour week with occasional overtime for deadlines

A&E + SMA Design is seeking a Construction Project Manager III/IV to join our team in Bozeman, MT. We are more than 100 diversely talented professionals committed to delivering exceptional client service, quality design, and innovative solutions throughout the region.

This role is ideal for an experienced construction professional who thrives during the construction phase of project delivery. As the owner's advocate and the design team's construction phase project manager, you'll lead construction phase services for a portfolio of projects throughout southwest Montana and beyond. You'll manage projects from construction kickoff through closeout while building strong relationships with owners, contractors, consultants, and internal project teams.

This position operates with a high degree of autonomy appropriate to a satellite office setting while receiving support and collaboration from the Construction Studio leadership and team. Placement at the Construction Project Manager III or IV level will be based on experience, exposure to a variety of project delivery methods, and demonstrated ability to independently manage complex projects and resolve construction challenges. As part of the firm's Construction Studio, you'll also collaborate with and support fellow Construction Project Managers to ensure successful project delivery across the firm.

Requirements

• Mentor junior staff and contribute to the continued growth of the Construction Studio

• This position is based in Bozeman, Montana, with a combination of office, field, and client meeting environments.
• Regular travel to project sites throughout the Gallatin Valley is expected, with occasional travel to projects across Montana.
• Work includes periodic site visits involving walking active construction sites and exposure to varying weather conditions.
• Typical work schedule is 40 hours per week, with occasional additional hours required to meet project deadlines or attend project meetings.
• Long periods of sitting, standing, driving, and computer use should be expected.
