Job description

Working/Functional Title: Landon Culinary Platform Attendant

Position Summary

Responsible for organizing, preparing, and supplying various food items related to salad bars, cold and hot food stations, and to-order service in a Residential Dining Hall. Assists cooks by combining ingredients, portioning, and serving from prepared to-order, while maintaining proper food handling and storage techniques to prevent waste and spoilage. Works within a diverse workforce and interacts directly with customers. Position Location: Landon Hall.

Important Notice

All RHS positions are designated as critical. In case of university closure or operational suspension due to weather or emergencies, employees are expected to report to work as scheduled. If remote work is approved, employees may work remotely for part of their scheduled hours but are expected to work on-site to serve the MSU community when needed.

Minimum Requirements
  1. High school diploma or equivalent, or a combination of education and experience.
  2. At least one year of full-time experience in food preparation and kitchen equipment use.
  3. Knowledge of kitchen safety practices.
  4. Ability to read weights and measures, and to weigh and measure ingredients accurately.
  5. Proficiency in basic math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers and fractions.
  6. Knowledge of various food preparation methods such as sautéing, display cooking, deep frying, grilling, and steaming.
  7. Ability to properly use knives and standard kitchen equipment.
  8. Skill in preparing food items with proper methods and timing to ensure freshness and continuous service.
  9. Physical ability to occasionally lift between 26 to 75 pounds.

Ability to anticipate service and customer demand changes; proactive, flexible, and able to take initiative.
