Base pay range

$16.00/hr - $17.00/hr

Summary Description

This position has a start date of March 1, 2025. A crew member must consistently perform high quality work by understanding customer/team leader requirements and fulfill them in a profitable manner; follow company policies and procedures maintaining all operations and safety standards. The crew member is responsible for loading and securing the equipment they use; travel to the property location and perform the services; and then load the equipment and travel to the next location.

Duties/Responsibilities
Overview of Daily Duties

The crew members usually work on small crews to perform their daily tasks. All crew members directly affect the motor vehicle's operations by driving it and/or safely loading it.

Morning:
  • Upon timely arrival, assist the team leader in making sure all the DOT repairs and checkpoints were performed and truck is ready to go.
  • Check and load equipment (oil level, tire pressure, blades), load materials and prepare truck for leaving as directed by team leader or PM.
  • Wear uniforms and have proper P.P.E.
  • Have proper credentials required by law and/or Columbia Landcare (Driver’s license, Medical Card when driving company truck, Technician card if applying chemicals, etc.).
  • Always fasten seatbelts, while company truck is in transit.
  • Have an open/helpful mindset - when there is something that needs to be done, willing and able to take the initiative to help.
  • Have a plan ready to go for how to undertake your work, making sure you have all the equipment and information you need to be successful once you arrive on the jobsite.
On site:
  • Follow Production Managers instructions on proper labor methods and techniques and safe equipment use.
  • Perform work as instructed by crew leader and/or PM.
  • Always remember safety is first. IF you cannot safely do something let someone know, and we will assist in the situation.
  • Use the right equipment as efficiently as possible while maintaining job specifications and quality standards.
  • Report all accidents/incidents to Production Manager as soon as possible.
  • Be kind/courteous with individuals on the property, greet with a smile and a wave.
  • Be able to professionally interact with clients, and relay information of their wants and needs back to the production managers.
  • Be flexible in our tasks always searching to find a better way to perform the task more efficiently, without jeopardizing quality.
Evening:
  • Assist team leader in fueling all equipment and truck, removing all trash, and dumping lawn debris in the designated areas.
  • Help to unload equipment and place small tools and supplies in cage.
  • Help team leader by assisting with DOT daily truck inspection if requested.
  • Assist team leader by reporting equipment/truck problems to shop staff and fill out equipment condition reports for repair.
  • Cleaning out any personal items/trash from vehicles before heading home.
Customer Service
  • Be respectful and courteous to property representatives and public.
  • Be pro-active and communicate property needs to Team Leader and Production Manager.
  • Always look and act professionally at job sites.
  • Respect private property. Breaks taken on site will be on truck or trailer, not in client’s yard, near pools, or on their lawn furniture.
Safety
  • Safety is the responsibility of ALL members of the team. Crew members will always contribute to a strong safety culture.
  • Assure all equipment is safe, securely fasten when loading equipment on vehicle/trailers.
Training
  • Active participant in team training and safety meetings.
  • Actively participate in training to understand:
    • The specific performance requirements for the various client properties.
    • How to safely operate all equipment
    • How to safely perform various tasks like:
      • Planting, mulching, pruning, tree-staking practices, etc.
      • Plant, insect, and disease identification.
      • Sound horticultural practices and use of fertilizer and chemicals.
      • Turf mowing practices in accordance with turf and equipment required.
      • Understanding of performance specifications for each property site.
Job Standards

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge are qualifying.

Experience, Work Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently, consistently, and efficiently and as an effective team member, with limited supervision.
  • Flexible enough to work varying hours to meet the needs of the company, this includes long days and weekends. Must be able to work on Saturdays and Sundays when necessary. As well as overnights potentially during snow events. (When it snows, we work.)
  • Prefer demonstrated experience working in the landscaping industry and safely operating professional landscape equipment.
  • Ability to frequently lift, pull and push 75 lbs.
Licenses/Certification:

Must have a current Class E driver’s license and be able to pass a drug test and DOT physical, fulfill company driver’s qualifications, safely operate company trucks, and comply with DOT regulations for motor vehicles that weigh 10,001 pounds or more, using the gross combined vehicle weight rating or the gross combined vehicle weight rating if the vehicle is towing a trailer.

Working Conditions:
  • Varies daily and throughout the day depending upon the demands of the company and its customers. Work is performed at customer sites and work sites vary daily.
  • When it is winter, we will be required to report snow events.
