Job summary

DarrowEverett LLP is seeking a Land Use Associate Attorney to join our Litigation Department in Providence, RI. The role requires handling permitting at municipal, state, and federal levels and delivering thoughtful zoning opinions.

Qualified candidates will have a strong academic record, proven writing skills, and the ability to advocate in court. Attorneys must be licensed in Rhode Island and/or Massachusetts and in good standing.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years experience in land use or municipal permitting practice.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal land use laws and policies.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion.
  • Shows initiative, mature judgment, and strong time management.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee local and state permitting processes, attend meetings, file applications, and prosecute appeals.
  • Manage licensing applications and provide zoning opinions.
  • Coordinate with staff and respond to urgent client needs.
  • Attend Zoning Board and Planning Board meetings and update clients regularly.
  • Represent firm and clients to enhance reputation and outcomes.

Job description

DarrowEverett LLP is looking to hire a Land Use Associate Attorney for our Litigation Department. The candidate must have excellent communication and administrative skills, be highly organized and detail-oriented, be able to multitask without sacrificing efficiency, be responsible, and be able to represent the firm and its clients in ways that enhance its reputation. Candidates should have the desire to work in a collegial environment and to grow their practice.

Qualified candidates must be prepared to handle various permitting at the municipal, state, and/or federal levels. A strong record of academic achievement, proven writing skills and a talent for advocacy in the courtroom are minimum requirements. Attorneys must be licensed to practice in Rhode Island and/or Massachusetts and be a member of the bar in good standing.

Role & Responsibilities:
  • Overseeing local and state permitting process approvals, including attending meetings, submitting applications and prosecuting appeals
  • Managing applications for licenses
  • Providing zoning, planning, and general permitting opinions
  • Coordinating with staff
  • Responding to the urgent needs of clients
  • Attending Zoning Board and Planning Board meetings
  • Regularly updating clients regarding the progress of their matters
Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the laws and rules, as well as municipal policies and procedures
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters on a confidential basis
  • A high degree of initiative, mature judgment, and discretion
