Widseth in Minnesota seeks a Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) to lead field survey activities and mentor junior staff. You’ll plan data collection, supervise crews, and safeguard safety while delivering accurate surveys for infrastructure and development projects.

Ideal candidates hold a LSIT and a related degree, with strong CAD/GPS experience and travel readiness. This role emphasizes precision, training, and collaboration with engineers and project managers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or associate degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or related field.
• Land Surveyor-in-Training (LSIT) certification.
• Familiarity with surveying equipment (GPS, total stations, levels) and CAD software.

Responsibilities

• Lead field survey team operations, including planning, equipment setup, and data collection.
• Supervise and train junior technicians on field procedures, safety, and best practices.
• Perform quality control checks on field data and documentation.
• Serve as a technical mentor and help develop training resources for the team.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and CAD technicians to ensure accuracy and timely delivery.
• Interpret legal descriptions, survey plats, and construction documents.
• Maintain high standards for field safety, equipment care, and data integrity.
• Troubleshoot, maintain, and calibrate survey instruments (GPS, GNSS, total stations, data collectors).

What You Bring:

• Familiarity with surveying equipment (GPS, total stations, levels) and CAD software
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Willingness to work in the field (sometimes in remote or rugged terrain)
• A positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and the ability to take feedback like a champ
• Bonus if you’ve done an internship or co-op—real-world experience always helps!
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to client sites as needed.
