Duties, Responsibilities & Other

The Senior Project Manager leads complex surveying and mapping projects, overseeing field and office operations to ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality deliverables. This role manages multiple survey crews, coordinates geospatial data workflows, and ensures compliance with applicable standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
Survey Project Management
  • Manage all aspects of surveying and mapping projects, including boundary, topographic, construction, and as-built surveys.
  • Develop and oversee project scopes, schedules, and budgets specific to survey operations.
  • Coordinate field crews and office staff to ensure efficient data collection and processing.
  • Ensure deliverables meet accuracy standards and client requirements.
Field & Geospatial Operations
  • Oversee field data collection using GPS/GNSS, total stations, LiDAR, and drone/UAS technologies.
  • Ensure proper execution of field procedures, including control establishment and QA/QC checks.
  • Guide data processing workflows including:
    • CAD drafting
    • Surface modeling
    • GIS integration
  • Validate field data against design plans and project requirements.
Quality Control & Compliance
  • Ensure all work complies with state surveying regulations, standards of practice, and licensing requirements.
  • Implement and oversee QA/QC processes for survey data and mapping deliverables.
  • Review plats, legal descriptions, and survey reports for accuracy and completeness.
Client & Stakeholder Coordination
  • Serve as the primary contact for clients on survey-related scopes.
  • Coordinate with engineers, construction teams, and project managers to align survey efforts with project needs.
  • Communicate project progress, risks, and technical considerations clearly.
Financial & Resource Management
  • Manage project budgets, staffing, and utilization of survey crews.
  • Track project performance, including schedule adherence and profitability.
  • Optimize workflows to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Business Developmt

  • Identify opportunities for additional survey services on existing projects.
  • Support proposals and scope development for surveying and mapping work.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients and industry partners.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Mentor survey staff, including crew chiefs, technicians, and junior PMs.
  • Provide technical guidance on complex survey challenges.
  • Support recruitment and retention of top surveying talent.
Qualifications
  • Education and/or Skills Required: Bachelor’s Degree in related field (AEC Industry) and minimum of 6 years of related professional experience, or 10 years of equivalent professional experience. Experience should include a track record of expanding project management duties. Proven experience in project management roles, with a focus on managing larger-scale projects or programs. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders. Proficiency in project management software and tools, with the ability to develop and maintain comprehensive project plans and documentation. Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to project management, quality assurance, and safety protocols. Effective problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement solutions in a fast-paced environment. Strong negotiation skills to manage contracts, scope changes, and stakeholder agreements effectively. Strong understanding of accounting principles to effectively manage project budgets, financial reporting, and resource allocation.

Education and/or Work Experience Preferred: Master’s Degree in related field (AEC Industry)

Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations Required: Ability to complete the KCI PM Training and Contract Risk Training along with passing the PM Board within 6 months of start date.
