Job description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Survey Crew Chief to join our team!

As a Survey Crew Chief at Rick Engineering, you will lead a survey crew to perform various surveying tasks for a variety of civil engineering design, private, and construction projects. Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree in surveying or related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in field layout, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory role.
  • A valid driver’s license is required and a clean driving record.

This role involves ensuring accurate data collection, conducting different types of surveys, and maintaining high standards of quality.

  • Proficient with total stations, GPS equipment, and data collectors.
  • Strong understanding of survey principles and practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents and legal descriptions.
  • Ability to lead all phases of setting control and construction layout.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to various project sites throughout Maricopa and Pinal County.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as bending, twisting, squatting, lifting, and moving objects of up to 50 pounds across various terrains.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with OSHA safety standards and regulations.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson, and Trimble Business Center.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal surveying regulations.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed primarily in outdoor environments, construction sites, roadways, and often in remote and rugged locations.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
  • Physical demands include standing for extended periods, walking on uneven/steep terrain, and carrying equipment.
  • Position is primarily based at our Phoenix, Arizona office.
