Job summary

CAGE Engineering in Lisle, IL is seeking a Survey Engineering Intern to join our survey team. From day one you’ll work on real client projects, develop skills in field data collection and survey drafting, and participate in mentorship and trainings throughout the summer.

You’ll report to the Survey Project Manager and gain hands-on experience with boundary, topographic, and construction staking surveys, while learning to navigate client meetings and project timelines.

Qualifications

  • Current pursuit of BS in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field from accredited university.
  • Familiarity with survey equipment or CAD software is a plus.
  • Focused, motivated, and results oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Assist survey crews with field data collection (boundary, topographic, construction staking surveys).
  • Support preparation of boundary retracement, ALTA/NSPS, and topographic surveys.
  • Help process field data and prepare survey drawings using survey and CAD software.
  • Research deeds, plats, and public records to support boundary and title work.
  • Quality control checks on field data and drafted deliverables; participate in client meetings to review survey findings and project direction.
  • Attend project team meetings to discuss timelines, budgets, and constraints.
  • Participate in CAGE trainings on technical and professional topics.
  • Meet regularly with your mentor and attend office hours with CAGE leaders.

Position Overview

As a Survey Engineering Intern with CAGE, you will join our survey team working on real client projects from day one, no busy work. You will develop technical skills in field data collection and survey drafting, and build professional skills like networking and organization, through a series of hands-on trainings, and you will check in regularly with a mentor throughout the summer. You will also have office hours, time set aside each week for interns to meet one-on-one with CAGE leaders, ask questions, and get to know the people leading the company. Success in this role looks like steady growth in your technical skills, real contributions to your project team, and a strong sense of what a career at CAGE could look like.

Key Responsibilities

Necessary Qualifications
  • In current pursuit of a BS in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university
  • Familiarity with survey equipment or CAD software a plus
  • Focused, motivated, and results oriented
  • Strong desire to learn and advance one's technical skills
  • Comfortable working outdoors and in the field as part of a crew
  • Ability to learn quickly and accept constructive criticism
  • Team-oriented with strong communication skills

Rewarding Compensation

  • Compensation: Starting at $25/hr
  • The compensation provided is a general guideline. Final compensation will be based on factors such as experience, qualifications, skills, and overall alignment with the role and company needs.
