Job summary

I & S Group, Inc. in North Olmsted, OH is seeking a Land Survey Crew Chief to lead field data collection and processing for diverse projects across Public Works, Water, and Commercial units.

You will work with Trimble, Leica, and Topcon equipment, manage field crews, and ensure data quality while traveling to sites. A strong field mindset and valid driver's license are essential.

Qualifications

• Field-work emphasis; travel to project sites required.

Responsibilities

• Collect quality field survey data at an adequate speed (specific to each project).
• Prepare field drawings and notes per ISG standards.
• Familiarize with survey hardware (Trimble, Leica, Topcon).
• Assemble instruments for survey tasks and ensure equipment readiness.
• Provide client/public relations in the field.
• Process LiDAR data into compatible point clouds and QA/QC reporting.
• Extract features from photogrammetry and point clouds for base maps.

Land Survey Crew Chief

Compensation: $20.00 - $50.00 / hour

Description

As a Land Survey Crew Chief, you turn raw data into powerful insights, guiding the creation of tomorrow’s infrastructure. This team member would work on a variety of projects within our Public Works, Water, Commercial, and other business units while utilizing innovative industry leading equipment.

Our Land Survey team serves public and private clients throughout the country. We are a full-service and multi-disciplinary firm, performing award-winning work in planning, design, survey, and construction.

Essential Duties

• Collect quality field survey data at an adequate speed (specific to each project and task)
• Prepare field drawings and high-quality notes of each project in accordance with ISG and survey standards
• Become familiar with all the provided survey hardware; Trimble, Leica, Topcon, etc
• Assemble all instruments and measuring devices needed to complete various types of survey work assignments
• Responsible for seeing that the proper equipment is loaded and charged for the next assignment
• Provide positive client/public relations as individuals are encountered in the field
• Be a team player and be accountable to other members of the team to complete assigned tasks and recognize performance of team members
• Process LiDAR sensor data into point clouds, adjusting to survey control, QA/QC reporting
• Extract mapping features from photogrammetry, mobile and terrestrial point clouds to create base map deliverables for design or other planning activity

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

You may have formal education in surveying, civil engineering, or geographic information systems (GIS). You may not. What we need is someone with some fundamental experience, eagerness to learn and enjoys being outside.

This is primarily a field-work position. Travel to job sites will be required, therefore, a valid driver's license with a good driving record is necessary. Even while in the field, Geospatial Specialists have access to technology and experts.

We don't hire survey or construction staff with the intention to lay them off over winter, they are a crucial part of our team at ISG. That said, we are seeking someone who is very adaptable and willing to take on tasks that may be outside their comfort zone.

Additional qualifications include:

• Familiarity with survey hardware including Trimble, Leica, Topcon, etc
• A working knowledge of Robotic Total Stations, and GPS
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D
• Strong communication, organization, analytical and interpersonal skills
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel out of town for projects
• Comfortable and enjoy working outside
• Experience in construction staking, performing ALTA, boundary and topographic surveys
