Job summary

Control Point Associates is seeking an experienced Crew Chief to lead field surveying crews in our Boonton/Warren office. The role requires supervising scope including construction stakeouts, boundary analysis, and 3D laser scanning, using Trimble/Leica/Spectre equipment.

You will oversee field operations, mentor crew members, and maintain strong client communication while adhering to project timelines and quality standards. The position emphasizes safety, data accuracy, and team collaboration.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of surveying experience in a managerial or leadership role.
• High School Diploma (required) with strong math, computer, and technical skills.
• Expertise in operating advanced surveying equipment and software.
• Willingness to obtain additional certifications (e.g., OSHA, Hazwoper, TWIC).
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to perform field calculations and ensure accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead survey crews, managing field operations and performing construction stakeouts, topographical surveys, boundary analysis, and as-built surveys.
• Use cutting-edge equipment (Trimble/Leica/Spectre robotic total stations, GPS RTK, 3D laser scanners) to collect accurate field data.
• Perform field calculations, create sketches, and ensure data is downloaded and processed accurately.
• Maintain safety standards and proper operation/maintenance of surveying equipment and vehicles.
• Mentor instrument operators and field crew, ensuring productivity and adherence to timelines.
• Serve as on-site point of contact for clients and provide regular project updates.

Essential Functions:

• Supervise and Lead Survey Crews: Manage field operations, including performing all phases of land surveying such as construction stakeouts, topographical surveys, boundary analysis, and as-built surveys.
• Advanced Survey Equipment: Utilize cutting-edge tools such as Trimble/Leica/Spectre robotic total stations, GPS RTK units, 3D laser scanners, and data collectors to gather accurate field data.
• Field Calculations and Data Management: Conduct detailed field calculations, complete sketches, and ensure data is downloaded and processed with accuracy.
• Safety and Equipment Maintenance: Safely handle all surveying equipment and vehicles, ensuring that the setup is done according to safety protocols and that equipment is properly maintained.
• Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor instrument operators and other field crew members, ensuring they are motivated, productive, and adhere to project timelines.
• Client Communication: Serve as the main point of contact on-site for clients, maintaining positive relationships and providing regular updates on project status.
• Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as required, ensuring that fieldwork meets the company’s high standards of quality and accuracy.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in surveying in a managerial or leadership role.

• Valid driver’s license required.
• Flexibility to work overtime and travel overnight if needed.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand/walk for long periods.
• Comfortable working in varying weather conditions (hot, cold, wet).
• Ability to work in construction zones and on busy streets with high noise levels.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Pay Range: $30-$48 per hour, depending on experience.
