Job summary

Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. is seeking a Right-of-Way process specialist to manage easement work, legal descriptions, ownership records, and encumbrances from maps and courthouse records. Safety is the top priority in daily duties for self and team.

The role requires an associate's degree (or equivalent experience) and at least two years in right-of-way acquisition or related fields, plus notary eligibility. Some travel (up to 10%) is expected.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Search courthouse records, prepares title data and easements; determine compensation; verify descriptions and notarization.
• Prepare and review railroad permits; gather required legal descriptions and exhibits.
• Provide easement and permit copies to customers; verify company land.
• Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned.

Job description

Responsible for serving as the process specialist in all areas of the Right-of-Way group including the responsibilities for preparing easements, writing legal descriptions, determining records of ownership and encumbrances of property from maps and county courthouse records. Responsible for placing safety as #1 priority in day-to-day work routine for self and others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• A working knowledge of right-of-way, land lease and land acquisition at a level normally acquired through the completion of an associate's degree in a related field or equivalent experience; and
• Two years right-of-way acquisition, abstracting, oil/mineral leasing or title insurance experience; and
• Ability to obtain and maintain notary in the stats of residence and able to be bonded.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Must take all measures necessary to protect networks, devices, programs and data from cyber-attack, damage or unauthorized access.
• May be required to maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, no sponsorships considered.
• Requires travel: Minimal (up to 10%).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Searches courthouse records, prepares title data, prepares easements and determines compensation for easements rights. Reviews all easements for accuracy and completeness of land descriptions, titles and notarization.
• Applies for railroad permits, which includes reviewing the region personnel’s legal descriptions & exhibits to be sent with application as well as permit fees and insurance information.
• Prepares and provides copies of easements and permits to internal/external customers.
• Responsible for verifying company owned land for internal/external customers.
• Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned.

Offers typically made between: $27.46 - $34.32 per hour
