Land Manager Consultant

Employment Type:Contract through April 30, 2026 (High potential for extension)

Location:Remote (This is a remote position for Michigan residents only. Candidates should be available to report to a nearby service center periodically for system updates and attend monthly department meetings in Royal Oak.)

About the Role:

CMS Energy is seeking a highly motivatedLand Management Consultantto support the management and preservation of company-owned properties and easement rights. This role is essential to managing land-related activities across CMS Energy’s real estate portfolio and ensuring seamless coordination with stakeholders, landowners, and third parties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support general real estate operations, including research, interpretation of property rights, and resolution of property-related issues.
  • Regularly communicate and collaborate with internal teams, landowners, and third parties.
  • Review, draft, and manage legal documents related to asset and land management, including licenses and maintenance agreements.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions for real estate agreements while protecting CMS Energy’s interests.
  • Respond to external customer inquiries and complaints, including those from adjacent landowners, ensuring timely and professional resolution.
  • Support requests for use, encroachments, and allowances on CMS Energy fee-owned properties and easements.
  • Partner with ITC on matters involving shared easement rights, particularly within electric transmission corridors.
  • Assist with the management of third-party uses and easement processes on CMS-owned land.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in real estate, land use, or land management.
  • Solid understanding of property rights, easement documents, and real estate practices.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to handle complex or sensitive conversations.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proficiency in handling and interpreting real estate contracts and legal documentation.
  • Not seeking a title specialist – broader real estate and land use experience preferred.
