Job summary

J2 Engineers Inc. seeks a civil engineering design lead to drive design and technical documentation through all project phases in Virginia. You will develop rezoning, site, drainage, and utility plans, while ensuring compliance with state and local standards.

The role requires a BS in Civil Engineering and at least five years of progressive experience, with strong teamwork and project management skills. You will use Civil 3D/AutoCAD and mentor junior staff in a collaborative, growth-oriented

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Lead development of design and technical documents through all project phases.
• Prepare and develop project design elements (rezoning, site/subdivision plans, storm drainage, water/sewer design).
• Perform QA/QC of own work and team members.
• Utilize VDOT, state, and local standards.
• Produce Civil 3D or AutoCAD drawings (Carlson).
• Lead planning studies, preliminary/final design, and permitting.
• Mentor junior staff and stay updated with design standards.

Description

• Lead the development of design and technical documents through all phases of projects.
• Prepare, plan, and develop project design elements including, but not limited to:
  • Rezoning & Entitlement Applications, Preliminary Plans, and Site & Subdivision Plans
  • Open and closed storm drainage systems including stormwater management
  • Water and Sanitary Sewer system design
  • Compliance with zoning ordinances, proffers, and applicable facility standards
  • Erosion and sediment control plans and design E&S control measures in accordance with state criteria
• Perform QA/QC of own work and the work of team members
• Utilize working knowledge of VDOT, state, and local standards, policies, and procedures
• Design and create technical documents in Civil 3D or in AutoCAD using Carlson Design Software
• Advance and lead planning studies, preliminary and final design plan production, and project permitting
• Train and mentor new and junior level staff members
• Remain current with Local, State, and Federal design standards and regulations to ensure compliance

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in all phases of services in planning, design, and management
• A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering
• Exemplary teamwork, interpersonal, and project management skills
