Job summary

Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc. (VHB) in Charlotte, NC seeks a Land Development Project Engineer to join our Planning, Engineering and Environmental Sciences team. You will develop plans, perform due diligence, and lead layouts while ensuring compliance with codes and client expectations.

The role offers exposure to higher education, healthcare, retail and mixed-use sectors, with mentorship and a collaborative, hybrid work environment that supports growth and client partnerships.

Qualifications

• BSc in Civil Engineering or related field required; PE licensure expected or obtainable within 6 months.
• 5+ years of escalating engineering experience on complex projects.
• Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MS Office, Excel and hydrology/hydraulic software.

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering plans and specifications in a team environment for a multitude of projects.
• Complete Due Diligence Reports and preliminary cost estimates for various sites and project types.
• Lead the development of preliminary layouts, design concepts, and detailed design drawings per standards and codes.
• Utilize and delegate application usage for generating project-specific drawings and reports.
• Manage quality control procedures and recommend QC enhancements.
• Train and mentor junior staff on technical aspects and policies.

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering plans and specifications in a team environment for a multitude of projects.
• Complete Due Diligence Reports and preliminary cost estimates for various sites and project types.
• Complete work within budget and prior to deadlines.
• Lead the development of preliminary layouts, design concepts, and detailed design drawings, ensuring compliance with company and industry standards and codes.
• Utilize, instruct, and delegate application usage for generating project-specific drawings, reports, or other technical deliverables
• Manage quality control procedures and recommend QC process enhancements
• Train and mentor junior staff on technical aspects and policies

Skills and Attributes

• Willingness to learn implementation of integrated services projects in a team with multidisciplinary skills.
• Knowledge of land development construction including codes and development regulations
• Experience with client and review agency interactions.
• Innovative design skills to develop solutions to complex projects.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Exhibits strong leadership skills and growth potential.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering or related degree
• 5+ years of increasing engineering experience on complex projects
• PE licensure expected or the ability to obtain within 6 months
• Proficient in the following: AutoCAD Civil 3D, MS Office, Excel.
• Proficient with hydrology and hydraulic modelling software such as HydroCad, PondPack, StormCAD and/or Sanitary & Sewer Analysis
• Proficient in site layout, grading, utility design and stormwater management
• Experience in developing and compiling/producing site plans, construction documents, specification, and engineering reports

Salary

The full-time annual base salary range for this position, located in Charlotte, NC, is $95,000 to $115,000. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.
