HR Green, Inc. is seeking a Land Development Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 in McHenry, IL. You’ll learn how sites are planned and designed from the ground up, including grading, drainage, roads, utilities, and site layout, by working with experienced engineers.

This hands-on internship invites you to contribute to real projects, participate in field visits, and explore different civil engineering areas while building practical skills with Civil 3D and other design tools.

Qualifications

• Be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline
• Be available to work full time during Summer 2027, typically from mid May or early June through early August
• Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, surveying, site design, grading, drainage, stormwater, or other civil engineering tools is a plus, but previous Land Development or engineering internship experience is not required.

As a Land Development Engineering Intern at HR Green, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers and designers to learn how sites are planned and designed from the ground up.

You’ll see how grading, drainage, roads, utilities, and site layout all come together to create places where people live, work, and spend time.

This isn’t an internship where you’ll spend the summer watching from the sidelines. You’ll be part of the team, learning by doing.

What You’ll Experience in Land Development

Land Development brings together many areas of civil engineering to turn ideas for a property into designs that can actually be built.

You don’t need to arrive knowing how to do all of this. That’s what the internship is for.

Compensation

$18-28/hr

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Illinois Salary Transparency amendment to the Equal Pay Act of 2003. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, skills, prior work experience, competencies, and geographic work location. The total annual compensation package may consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate, after a qualifying period, in our performance and discretionary incentive bonus program(s).
