Job summary

Rentokil North America, Inc. is seeking an Aquatic Technician to maintain ponds, pools, and water features, ensuring water quality and safety for aquatic life and visitors.

The role requires routine inspections, equipment maintenance, and adherence to safety protocols, with certifications/licenses obtained as needed. Flexible hours and opportunities to educate staff and visitors are offered.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED; related science degree preferred.
  • Experience: 0–1 years in environmental field preferred.
  • Knowledge of aquatic biology, water chemistry and ecology.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and water quality testing for aquatic facilities.
  • Monitor pH, chlorine, alkalinity, and ensure safe conditions.
  • Inspect and repair aquatic equipment; maintain records and safety SOPs.
  • Respond to emergencies and assist with educational programs.

As an Aquatic Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health, safety, and functionality of aquatic facilities, including ponds, lakes, pools, aquariums, and water features.Duties & ResponsibilitiesPerform routine maintenance tasks to ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of aquatic facilities, including water quality testing, filtration system maintenance, and debris removal.Monitor and maintain appropriate water chemistry levels, including pH, chlorine, and alkalinity, to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for aquatic life and human patrons.Inspect and repair equipment and infrastructure related to aquatic systems, such as pumps, valves, heaters, and circulation systems, to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.Completion and maintaining work orders up to dateReceive all required certifications/licenses within the time specifiedProficient with identifying aquatic plant and algae species common to the region/districtAdherence to safety SOPs with low or no safety incidents - no late reporting of incidentsMaintaining equipment and vehiclesConduct regular inspections of aquatic habitats to assess the health and welfare of aquatic life, identify any signs of disease or stress, and implement appropriate corrective measures.Coordinate and participate in the transportation, acclimation, and quarantine procedures for new aquatic arrivals, ensuring their smooth transition into their new environment.Provide educational programs and presentations to staff, volunteers, and visitors on topics related to aquatic conservation, ecology, and responsible pet ownership.Maintain accurate records of water quality data, equipment maintenance logs, and animal health assessments in compliance with regulatory standards and institutional policies.Respond promptly to emergencies, such as water quality issues, equipment failures, or animal health crises, and implement appropriate protocols to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of personnel and animals.Candidate RequirementsEducationHigh school diploma or GEDDegree in related science preferredExperience0-1 years’ experience preferred in an environmental related fieldSkills & CompetenciesKnowledge of aquatic biology, ecology, and water chemistry principles, with a focus on maintaining optimal environmental conditions for aquatic life.Familiarity with aquatic equipment, including filtration systems, pumps, UV sterilizers, and water quality testing instruments.Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and water quality issues effectively.Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks such as lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and interact professionally with visitors, volunteers, and colleagues.Commitment to animal welfare and conservation principles, with a passion for educating others about the importance of protecting aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity.Certification in CPR, first aid, and lifeguarding preferred.Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to meet operational needs and respond to emergencies.Must possess valid driver's license from state of residenceWhy Choose Us?A career with the Rentokil family of companies can be a professional trajectory filled with opportunity.
