The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is seeking an individual to join the Outdoor Recreation Team as the Lake Johnson Park Assistant Manager. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing programming as well as daily operations at Lake Johnson Park. Lake Johnson is a 350-acre site that is home to the Thomas G. Crowder Woodland Center, which includes meeting rooms, park exhibits, and access to trail systems throughout the park. Lake Johnson has a 150-acre body of water, with a Waterfront Program Center, including, meeting space, covered deck, fishing dock, and beach area. The park houses portions of the Walnut Creek Trail greenway.
Reporting to the Lake Johnson Park Manager, theLake Johnson Park Assistant Manager will play a pivotal role in advancing citywide Outdoor Recreation strategies, building partnerships, and ensuring quality programming that engages the community and meets their needs.

Work Hours:This park is open 7 days a week from dawn-dusk. This position is expected to work some nights and weekends.- Oversees the provision of outdoor recreation programming at Lake Johnson Park to external and internal customers. May serve as program or event lead.
- Develops and regularly updates a variety of program offerings.
- Hires, trains, supervises, and schedules part-time staff, interns, and volunteers incollaboration with the Park Manager.
- Develops staff schedule for park facilities and programs.
- Reviews staff timecards and enter data for payroll.
- Schedules and processes reservations for rental facilities, manage invoices and payments.
- Educates both staff and the public on risk management procedures, mitigate risks, and render first aid in cases of injury.
- Makes purchases, tracks, and reconciles expenses with park budgets. Assists with development of park spending plan.
- Assists with the oversite of an inventory of specialized outdoor recreation equipment as well as several city vehicles.
- Assists with the planning and coordination of emergency response efforts and risk management.
- Will additionally assist the City as needed in clean-up and repair during inclement weather situations.
Education and Experience:Bachelor' degree in parks and recreation, forestry, urban forestry or field directly related to assignment and two years of directly related experience

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing and Certifications:- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
Preferred Qualifications:- CPR/First Aid Certification, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
- American Canoe Association certification for one or more of the following: Stand Up Paddleboard, Kayak, Canoe
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:- Experience developing outdoor recreation programs and applying teaching methods appropriate for the audience
- Team leadership, strategic planning, and fostering positive work culture
- Experience working in or managing public green space
- Practical experience in stewardship principles related Outdoor Recreation
- Establish solid partnerships, working in diverse collaborative settings and finding innovative ways to attract new audiences
- Hiring, evaluating, and supervising employees as well as leading or managing water-based programs or facilities
